  • This is just the very beginning of this article. The history of The Great Synagogue of London is important to the history of Judaism. More will be written but no time to do it now.

Please, others should contribute, too, to its great history.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Crzrussian (talkcontribs) 23:14, 5 November 2006

Category edit

I have removed the category Category:Synagogues destroyed by Nazi Germany. The other synagogues in this list were deliberately destroyed as a consequence of Nazi policy in Germany or in occupied countries. That is not the case for the Great Synagogue, which was not deliberateley targeted, (and whose destruction is appropriately dealt with in the other categories listed below the article). To include the Great Synagogue in this list is therefore to characterise its fate in a misleading manner. To make an appropriate comparison, for example, civilian victims of the Blitz campaigns (e.g. Mary Lawson (actress) or Charles Hesterman Merz) are listed in Wikipedia under Category:British civilians killed in World War II, not as victims of the Nazis.--Smerus (talk) 16:54, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

But UK civilians killed in bombing raids were victims of the Nazis. I have added Category:People killed by Nazi Germany to Category:Civilians killed in World War II. Category:Synagogues destroyed by Nazi Germany compliments Category:British churches bombed by the Luftwaffe. Chesdovi (talk) 18:33, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think we are close to an answer here. Category:Synagogues destroyed by Nazi Germany doesn't exactly complement Category:British churches bombed by the Luftwaffe. Would it not be better to seek to change the category Category:British churches bombed by the Luftwaffe to Category:British places of worship bombed by the Luftwaffe, and include the Great Synagogue there? he alternative would be to create a category Category:British synagogues bombed by the Luftwaffe but I know of no other candidates apart from the GS. If you are agreeable I will seek to amend the 'churches' category.--Smerus (talk) 16:33, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
