Languages in Gravelines

edit

Article says "Only in the 19th century did the population become totally French speaking." I ask: What other language was there? English? Dutch? Spanish? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.249.249.5 (talk) 00:33, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'd also like to know the answer to this. 89.101.41.216 (talk) 11:26, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Almost certainly Dutch (or more specifically the dialect known as French Flemish), which has retreated along this coast over the centuries. Beorhtwulf (talk) 07:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Twin towns

edit

Dartford isn't twinned with Gravelines, it's twinned with Namyangju, South Korea. Is this an error here, or on the Dartford page?BrayLockBoy (talk) 09:15, 27 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dartford website says the towns have been twinned since 1991: https://www.dartford.gov.uk/by-category/leisure-and-culture2/dartford-hanau-and-gravelines-twinning Beorhtwulf (talk) 08:45, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

1654 explosion

edit

Looking at Priddy's Hard Gosport, there is a reference to a major explosion in Gravelines in 1654. I know nothing about Gravelines except its role as the venue of the 1588 Armada defeat. Can anything be added? Regards JRPG (talk) 23:28, 9 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
