Reichsmarshall edit

I see this rank is being removed from the list of military equivalents. The rank translates as "Imperial Marshal" and has been listed often as "Grand Marshal" or "Empire Marshal". The Dae marshal ranks are also listed and their translations are even shakier than that. Why should it not be listed amongst the military titles? -Husnock 21:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • An exclusively German title must be understood and treated as logical according to the German semantics- Großmarschall, the literal and true equivalent of Grand Marshal, exists and has absolutely nothing to do with Reichsmarshal. It might be correct to challenge the Korean title equally, but lacking the actual Korean translation and context I can't pronounce on that one. -User:Fastifex
    • As this is now a list article, it defines to list ranks associated with the title, not pure exact translations (if that were the case, we would have to remove the japanese and korean versions as neither of them are literal translations). In addition, RM is often listed on rank comparison charts as an equivalent of a Grand Marshal. I actually have not heard of the military German rank of Großmarschall. Where does that exist? Please also watch your reverts, as your recent change wiped out the change of this article to a list article. -Husnock 14:53, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Comparisons to other military ranks edit

For the military, this article says, "Grand Marshal is often compared to a six or seven star General." First of all, if Grand Marshal is a seven star General, then what is a six star General? (I assume Field Marshal is five star.) Second, what other ranks are there that are higher than Field Marshal? And third, how does a Grand Marshal compare to a Generalissimo or Generalissimus, which are also supposed to be above a Field Marshal? - Shaheenjim 21:38, 16 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some countries, like North Korea, have a "Vice Marshal" position (see Chasu) which ranks as a 5 star, then followed by Marshal as a 6 star, then Grand Marshal as a 7 star. To my knowledge, only North Korea has ever openly said that the Grand Mardshal rank they have (Dae Wonsu) is a 7 star general. And they said it to place Il-Sung above George Washington so that they would be better than the Americans. In actual practice, 7 star generals are bit extreme. -OberRanks 18:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
So there is no such thing as a seven star General in the US, but if there was, Grand Marshal would be the equivalent. Ok. Thanks. I'll edit the article to say that. - Shaheenjim 20:04, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Usage edit

What countries have a Grand Marshal rank in their military? The article has a list of countries that have military ranks in other languages that are the equivalent of Grand Marshal. But what English speaking countries have the rank of Grand Marshal itself? - Shaheenjim 21:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Republic of China edit

This article implies that the Republic of China had one or two ranks like Grand Marshal. Wikipedia's article on the Military of the Republic of China makes no reference to those ranks. Are they outdated? If so, as of when? - Shaheenjim 22:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
