| The numerous buildings and structures that make up the Urumqi International Bazaar cover an area over 1,000,000 square meters. The banquet hall, the delicacy square and an open-air performance plaza make up the most featured part of this bazaar. In the midst of all this stands Xinjiang’s first sightseeing tower, which erects into 80 meters high. The bazaar also features an Islamic mosque. The buildings and general area are constructed in an Islamic style representative of the preponderant religion and ethnic culture of the western region. The Bazaar is often referred to as a “city within a city”.
In the international bazaar, there are all kinds of shops, as well as food plaza, theatre and churches. Two areas are particularly interesting and shouldn’t be missed when visiting the Bazaar. The NO.1 building and the NO.3 building offer global and domestic delights for every taste. The NO.1 building is a modern global food market, while the NO.3 building holds local products. Inside the first building visitors can find all kinds of dried fruits, such as raisins, apricots, Chinese dates, prunes, etc. In fact, there are several different types of raisins to choose from. The vendors often invite consumers to taste-test their goods before purchase. The vendors have rules in place were buyers “don’t pay if it isn’t sweet”, or “taste it before you buy it”. The No.3 building sells traditional handicrafts from Xinjiang and Middle or East Asia. Here you can find beautifully made carpets, but buyer bewares, prices can surge as high as 10000 CNY ($1500 USD). However, there are also less expensive varieties. Here you can also find traditional embroidered hats, knives, Etles silk (tradition silk with Xinjiang tie-dye), Pakistani bronze craftwork, Russian war industry products, loads of bronze ware, and cloth and clothing from all over Asia and the Middle East. There are also wonderful performances every evening. With little plaits and traditional clothes, Uygur actors and actresses put on stage belly and head bow dances. On occasion they even invite spectators to dance with them on stage. In the Xinjiang International Bazaar, you can not only buy special goods and folk art crafts, but also appreciate and feel the interesting folk customs of Uyghur nationality. Exquisite Craftworks In the bazaar, you can have a look at the glittering craftworks of Xinjiang. Delicate hats, fine incense bags, as well as carpets and clothes with distinctive features. Especially the jade, which is the best of China, is an ideal present or souvenir. All of these goods are good way to commemorate your trip to the wonderful land of Xinjiang. Distinctive Building The building of the bazaar is definitely unique and charming in Xinjiang. Red bricks and white tiles make a western building landscape. The building has a strong style of Islam features. Huge arches, point and round roofs are the symbol, and beautiful appearance and convenient functions are the designing concept of the buildings. Wonderful Performances When night falls to Xinjiang, light sparkles and polishes the buildings with glittering flashes, which look extremely beautiful in the evening.
