Talk:Governor General's Foot Guards

Latest comment: 7 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

Just a correction, the "Second World War–era German MG42" is not actually an MG42. During a visit in the Museum I was corrected and told that it was in fact, not an MG42. I will not change the article until I actually go back to the Museum and read the panel again myself. 74.56.236.154 03:44, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is the 1927 photo really one of the GGFG?

Though it looks like they are standing in front of Parliament the cuff frogging is different from a Guards regiment and there is no red plume. Is it possible it is of the 10th Royal Grenadiers or the Vandoos?Foofbun (talk) 07:41, 1 February 2011 (UTC) http://canadaatwar.tripod.com/55pics/30.jpgReply

Good point: most of the soldiers are wearing line-infantry tunics, which combined with the bearskins make them look like fusiliers or R22eR (which wears fusilier uniforms because of the alliance with the Welch Fusiliers). However, fusiliers wear a cap badge on their bearskins, and there aren't any cap badges in the picture. And also, the colour party and the officer next to His Excellency are wearing guards tunics with buttons in twos -- only GGFG has worn this tunic in Canada. So maybe there was a shortage of guards tunics and the were making do with line-infantry tunics? Or maybe this is a composite formation? Indefatigable (talk) 17:27, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
