U.S. only?

Don't there exist government-sponsored agencies sponsored by non-US governments? Crasshopper (talk) 04:14, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

There are all sorts of government-sponsored businesses, around the world sponsored by different governments. The phrase "government-sponsored enterprise" is used in the US to refer to specific entities (usually FNMA, FHLMC (Fannie Mae and Freddiemac)) with specific laws and powers associated with it. For example in other countries a "government-sponsored agencies" might refer to a government-owned company while GSEs in the US are owned by stock holders. So this tag is inappropriate. --BoogaLouie (talk) 21:38, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
I think BoogaLouie is right that it's okay for this article to focus on GSEs in the US, but I think that means the title should be changed to explicitly say that this article only refers to GSEs in the US. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.126.255.43 (talk) 20:40, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Gonna remove the tag since it is a US specific term. If anyone objects please feel free to speak up with what you would like to see.Winfredtheforth (talk) 08:32, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
