What definition of 'electric train' is this entry using? The trains are standard ScotRail/First ScotRail diesel jobs with overhead wires providing power for lighting and such.

If there's no dissenting opinions, I'll correct that.

Also, should we link to the gourock.org website? It represents the 'Gourock Community Trust', which have been a fairly ineffectual organisation trying to update Gourock's image and teach the local OAPs how to use the internet. Last time I checked it hadn't been updated in a considerable time. Normally I'd say linking would be obvious, but I'm not sure what value gourock.org has to a general reader.

Opinions? Wibbble 01:58, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

As far as the trains are concerned, there is no visual evidence of diesel engines on close inspection, and the noise, vibration and exhaust fumes normally associated with diesels are absent to the extent that the First ScotRail ticket collector on the train today was convinced that they are electric trains, though he did say that there are some (noisy) diesels running out of Central on some other routes. If they are diesels, putting such engines in the buses would make the streets a lot quieter! Please WP:CITE sources for your interesting revelation. ...dave souza, talk 17:47, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'll admit to going on memory, and also not not having had to use the Gourock-Glasgow route in a while. My error, and this is why I mentioned it here first. Any opinion on the GCT link? Wibbble 02:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
It looks pretty dud, though it has some photos. Inverclyde Now gives a bunch of links, including a dull front page for the community council which leads to a local news page which is probably worth a link, though it's none too flattering: as of today it mentions the "Gourock under 18's Buckfast & White Lightening Appreciation Society." Local news is also available from the tele and Inverclyde Now. ...dave souza, talk 14:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I don't think there's any requirement to present Gourock in a flattering light - the mix of mindless under-age drinking (and I think I know some people that could be the founding members of that society) and small-town small-mindedness does seem to reflect the Gourock that I know and fled far away from. There's certainly enough showing the main positive of Gourock - the views - so some balance might not be the worst thing ever. On the other hand, does anyone actually care enough about Gourock to be bothered if the wikipedia article doesn't have much more than lots of nice pictures? I was surprised to find as much here as there was. Wibbble 22:17, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clan Darroch

edit

Refering to the part about Clan Darroch - this seems to imply to the uninitiated that the "illustrious" head of the clan actually lives in his baronial pile here. We know he lives elsewhere - perhaps the wording could reflect this?

I didn't know where he lived, perhaps Midton ;) Have now found a source and clarified this point. . dave souza, talk 12:31, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

I have removed a lot of the images on this page, but added a link to the relevant section of Wikimedia Commons. I thought there were too many images on this page. bruce89 13:28, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for picking up on things getting rather messy and adding the commons link. hope you're content that I've added a wee gallery at the foot. ..dave souza, talk 21:32, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bowling clubs

edit

I'm really not sure that Gourock's various bowling clubs merit inclusion, and certainly not in the folksy unencyclopaedic manner it's been done here. Anyone have any opinions to offer? Wibbble 13:10, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree completely, get rid. Fraslet 13:56, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I am proposing to merge Ashton, Inverclyde; McInroy's Point; Midton, Gourock and Trumpethill into Gourock. Stubby articles with few, if any, references for small areas of a small town. Little scope for expansion and could be comfortably described within the "Areas of Gourock" section of the town's article. Jellyman (talk) 12:03, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
