Request about wording edit
Please do not label it such. In the past satan has sowed in the hearts of the wicked too label the gospel hall an sect. Ill repeat this once, the gospel hall is not an sect. Content and NPOV concerns edit
This is a very bad Wikipedia article; it has severe POV issues. It should talk about the history of Gospel Halls, and the association of the term with a specific type of Plymouth Brethren Christians. Instead, it discusses their beliefs and practices, simply calling them "Christians". This may be what they call themselves, but it fails to distinguish them from, say, Catholics - who also call themselves "Christian" but don't call their houses of worship "gospel halls". --Brianyoumans 09:43, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've had a go at rewriting. There was a lot of POV and inappropriate tone that i removed too. I'm not at all familiar with the terminology and may have made some mistakes, corrections would be appreciated, as would reliable sources especially ones that take an independent, neutral approach and can give an overview of the status of these folks. -- Siobhan Hansa 21:49, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- In view of the current WP:AFD discussion, I have tried to tidy up the article, seeking to provide an objective description. My source is essentialy personal experience and what I ahve been told anecdotally from having been a member of a church which was formerly a Brethren Assembly (though not called a Gospel Hall), and from what I have been told by others in the movement. I appreciate that this is strictly WP:OR and thus not a wholly acceptable source for WP, but I cannot do better. I hope that this contribution has dealt with the WP:POV issues. However I am not sure that this article would not be better being merged into Plymouth Brethren. Whether it should be will depend on whether any one can provide a source to prove that there are Gospel Halls that do not form part of any of the Brethren movements. - Thanks for the work Peter - you've made it a much more comprehensible article! I searched for sources but was unable to distinguish which ones were reliable - it seems like quite a specialist area. Having read the Plymouth Brethren article I agree on the redirect suggestion. It seems like the overlap is significant, even if there are a few Gospel Halls that are not a part of the Brethren movement now, it seems like a section under that article might still be appropriate because of the historical connection. -- Siobhan Hansa 13:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
