"The correct name is Google DeepMind Gemini" edit

@Wbm1058: And where are you getting that? Is the correct name of YouTube "Google YouTube" and the correct name of ChatGPT "OpenAI ChatGPT"? InfiniteNexus (talk) 22:59, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sigh. Gemini is a very ambiguous term, unlike YouTube and ChatGPT. How the hell are sources disambiguating that? – wbm1058 (talk) 23:08, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
This is not about where to disambiguate the article, this is about what the "correct"/official name of the service is. But since you asked, the top choice among sources seems to be "Google's Gemini", or just Gemini. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:11, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
You should know that Wikipedia does not enforce official names for all internal Wikilinks, and prefers to use the "common" name most often used by sources: WP:COMMONNAME. – wbm1058 (talk) 23:16, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Of course I'm well aware, but repeat: This is not about where to disambiguate the article. If you believe Gemini (language model) should be moved to Google Gemini, then start an RM, but that has nothing to do with marking "Google Gemini" (or "Google DeepMind Gemini") as the correct/official name. I'm not proposing to move the article. Where do you get the idea that the only acceptable link to an article is the article title and that all internal links to redirects to that title are errors and the redirects should be bypassed? Would Google's Gemini be acceptable, or do you want to mark that as an error too? wbm1058 (talk) 23:26, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I would absolutely bypass Google Gemini and Google's Gemini if I came by them, because they are errors. Google's Gemini should not be categorized as an incorrect name, however, because "Google's" is being used as a generic descriptor, and no one would mistakenly believe "Google's" is supposed to be part of the product's name. Google Gemini, on the other hand, suggests otherwise. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:38, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm here because since 19:59, 2 July 2023, there has been a link to Google Gemini in the Large language model article, and nobody has yet reverted that despite that having been tagged as incorrect since 6 December. – wbm1058 (talk) 00:00, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Google Search is an article title as the common name for Google (search engine). – wbm1058 (talk) 00:05, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Google Search is the official name of the product; Google is the common name. And just because no one noticed something does not make it correct; WP:SILENCE is the weakest form of consensus. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:14, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
