Poor styling

edit

I've just corrected some mistakes and added the paragraph about the 3rd party software. However, I still find the article very poorly written, especially the last paragraph. I am not a native speaker and don't know much about the subject, so I'm unable to improve this article. Despite that, it still seems clear to me that it is in dire need of copy-edting.Pfc432 20:32, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

As of 19:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC), the article lacked (enough) reliable sources, footnotes, and a References section. Search for some references:

Google Discontinues ...

edit

Google continues to abort potential products that don't achieve broad adoption: previously it was google notebook (no more editing bookmarks via google notebook), and now it's the "lists" feature of google bookmarks that will be discontinued (on 2011/12/19). I can't find any links/references as to how Google Bookmarks will or won't be affected by this. Came here looking for answers, but this article is really thin. -- Michael (talk|contrib) 08:06, 26 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

google/bookmarks new bugs...

edit

There are two discussion topics on-going about loss of function of Google Bookmarks: Defects in both full Service GUI and Bookmarklet and Google bookmarks EDIT button is.... frozen? Just NOT working!.

A summery of google/bookmarks bugs are:

  • Bookmarklet 'auto-complete' for 'labels' stopped working,
  • Bookmarklet on-going problem of long URLs not being saved without an error message,
  • Google Bookmarks, Full Service GUI 'edit' link has stopped responding,
  • Google Bookmarks, Google Toolbar - Bookmarks button can't add new bookmarks (X-Ref.3).

Also no 'feedback' link is provided for this App at the bottom of the google/bookmarks page.

The Bookmarklet "Button" can be found at the bottom of "https://www.google.com/bookmarks/"

javascript:(function(){var a=window,b=document,c=encodeURIComponent,d=a.open("https://www.google.com/bookmarks/mark?op=edit&output=popup&bkmk="+c(b.location)+"&title="+c(b.title),"bkmk_popup","left="+((a.screenX||a.screenLeft)+10)+",top="+((a.screenY||a.screenTop)+10)+",height=510px,width=550px,resizable=1,alwaysRaised=1");a.setTimeout(function(){d.focus()},300)})();

Google/bookmarks more bugs

edit

The search page that is used to search Google Bookmarks online appears to have a bug related to the age of the recorded bookmarks. Note the identical searches of "magicjack" conducted with the online Google Bookmarks search vs. using the Online Bookmark IncSearch extension. The IncSearch extension correctly finds six old bookmarks saved in 2008 while the online search finds none. By simply editing and saving the first bookmark the online search result now finds one of the six saved bookmarks. The Gbookmark Android app produces similar results proving the bug exists in the online Google Bookmark search. It appears that records stored longer than 1 year without updating are subject to this bug but the records are kept online and can be found by other means.

Google Bookmarks search result compared to Online Bookmark IncSearch of 6 old bookmarks from 2008

Google Bookmarks search result compared to Online Bookmark IncSearch of same 6 bookmarks one of which was recently edited in 2017

Gbookmark for Android similarly finds the same 6 old bookmarks which Google Bookmarks search misses

Comparing Chrome to Google?

edit

Please note that according to the URL of the two images that are represented to indicate a bug that one is apparently comparing Chrome bookmarks to Google bookmarks. They are two different things!

Jan De Neys (talk) 09:59, 1 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Jan De Neys please note that your statement "that one is apparently comparing Chrome bookmarks to Google bookmarks" is incorrect and disputed by myself the author of the images you refer to; I will explain to you and the community. Chrome bookmarks was not used in any of the images or comparisons, I do know the difference. The search result comparisons in the three screen capture images you are referring to was produced by three different search tools which all use the same Google Bookmarks database as their source data. These different search tools are referenced in the Google Bookmarks article so you can easily find them.

In the first two images I am comparing results on a PC using two different browser based search tools; 1) The Google Bookmarks web search page, and 2) "Online Bookmark Incremental Search" (which is a browser extension available for both the Chrome browser and Firefox). Please note that although the Google Chrome browser is shown in both of these images the bookmarks feature within the Google Chrome browser is not shown nor is it being searched, it is indeed a different thing as you pointed out. These are in fact, both web based searches of the Google Bookmarks online database and could have been done with the Firefox browser with the same results. The point of this comparison with two search tools was to demonstrate the bug that the Google Bookmarks web search page returns an incomplete result, missing results for bookmarks stored for over one year and not recently edited.

The third screen capture image and search tool 3) used for comparison purposes was produced by the application called "Gbookmark" on an Android phone. It correctly returns the same results as 2) above comfirming that 1) the Google Bookmarks web search page is returning an incomplete result from its own database.
