Why was a fake logo posted? No offense, Mr. Júlio Santos Monteiro but that's a pretty shameless plug.

This page is based on rumours and speculations and is in no way verifiable. I think it should be pulled down Dmitriid 11:05, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is well known that Google has a tailor-made linux distro for internal use. If that and Goobuntu are the same thing, it should stay. If not, it should still stay. There are other articles based on popular rumors and speculation. --Snargle 18:06, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
That is a classic example of weasel words if I ever saw one. Rumours and speculation are not a valid premise for a Wikipedia article and if there are other articles based on such things, those articles should be taken down too. This one in particular seems to have been written by an Ubuntu fan(boy) to add Google's authority to their pet distro. If no one can suggest why this article should stay, then I assert that it shouldn't and will be deleting it as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.42.150 (talk) 19:49, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Apparently just bullshit.. --Drange net 19:35, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
hehe I just thought of a good jingle, set to the disco hit "more more more". "Goobuntu, how do you like it?" Family Guy Guy 06:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
This page indeed is based on rumours which have been denied, however, I'll correct the page to be about the rumours, that's better than deletion. --Vincent 15:42, 26 February 2006
it isnt based on rumors, check here. They say its there, just not made available to the public.Panfrie 02:49, 11 April 2006 (UTC)(UTC)Reply
Do you believe that really is by Chris Dibona? Indeed, Google uses Linux internally, they use Ubuntu and they surely have slightly modified it, they admit all this but they do not call it Goobuntu. --Vincent 12:43, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Internal use as a Desktop would make sense, along with their probably very highly customised Linux Server platforms. If they were thinking of making a customer/end use Desktop linux, it would not be a Desktop OS in the sense of Ubuntu (Or Windows or OSX), but nothing more than a infrastructure for their Platform, Chrome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.200.223 (talk) 11:26, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh bugger my prediction is already true... in fact its probably going to be released this year. See Google Chrome OS.
Regardless of its existence or no, shouldn't an article like this be merged into the article on Ubuntu, or Google? 66.233.137.79 09:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I once visited google, and saw it. They indeed call it Goobuntu. However, I couldn't find even a single genuine screenshot on the net, probably because google is such a paranoid company. 132.68.1.28 16:06, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think that are such articles useful, well especially their talk pages. On the other hand I remember when there was the rumours about open sourced Blender, almost nobody believed back then... --Popski (talk) 18:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

permenant stub status

edit

I don't think this article is ever going to grow out of its stub status. It's about an internal project within Google that the organization has a policy of not discussing publicly.

Is there somewhere else we can merge this article, perhaps? —mako (talkcontribs) 18:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Poor Grammar

edit

"While both Google and Ubuntu's creator Mark Shuttleworth have confirmed..." We either need to name both or neither creators, because even theough I understand that you are in fact using 'Google' as a singular entity, the phrasing should be more along the lines of the following: "While both Google and Mark Shuttleworth, creator of Ubuntu, have confirmed..."

Canonical + Google = Friends

edit

http://www.pcworld.com/article/182890/google_partners_with_canonical_for_chrome_os.html

According to this article, Google and Canonical actually are close partners on a number of projects, and Ubuntu is no exception. I agree that Google is contributing back to Ubuntu, and I'm sure Google could easily advertise Ubuntu using Google Ads, YouTube, or even TV. This is very good news.

Importance

edit

Is this article really needed? I don't think it meets the threshold of importance, since it is only used internally. Smihael (talk) 08:50, 13 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I propose to merge gLinux into Goobuntu. From what we publicly know, gLinux and Goobuntu are basically identical, other than the different distros, and serve the exact same purpose. It would also help lengthen this stub a bit. curcle. talk. 18:18, 8 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
