Somaliland

I believe the article should indicate that the mountain range is in Somaliland, which is a de facto independent country since 1991, as opposed to Somalia. An analogous example to this article would be the Alishan Range article, which indicates that the mountain range is in Taiwan and not China. As with Somaliland, Taiwan is a de facto independent country. Koodbuur (talk) 17:00, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

According to the Somaliland article, "Somaliland's self-proclaimed independence remains unrecognised by any country or international organisation," so I'm not sure Taiwan is the best benchmark here. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 17:05, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
As far as Wikipedia is concerned, both Somaliland and Taiwan appear on the List of states with limited recognition article, in that they have de facto control but no de jure recognition. While you are right that there are some countries who recognize Taiwan and no country so far have recognized Somaliland, both share the fact that they are de facto sovereign states. There is an additional difference, in that Taiwan is not only the common name of a state, but also a geographical feature - the island that the state is centered on. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think Somaliland is the same. ansh.666 01:52, 26 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Muscab30: Due to recent news, the term Golis Mountains has come to refer to the area around Galgala, I think this is a misnomer. As you can see from the text, there is no international recognition of Karkaar as a Golis Mountains; definitions of Golis Mountains vary in the source. It is fair to say that in this article, as it was written before you edited it, it originally meant the mountain range in western Somaliland, but today it can refer to the mountain range up to Cape Guardafui. previously known as (Karkaar mountains) but currently famously used (Golis Mountains) which is commonly used name. Golis mountain is not limited just Somaliland, but starts from Ethiopia All the ways Somaliland and Ends Cape Guardafui. However, Modern days name (Golis) old name (Karkaar). Does the source you have shown clearly state "Golis Mountains Formerly known Karkaar"? Freetrashbox (talk) 10:52, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Muscab30: Since I did not receive a response from you, I have reverted your edit. I look forward to your edit showing better sources of information. Freetrashbox (talk) 11:03, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

As Somali people we knew more about our geography and landscapes better than other people, in Somalia historical writings is limited but, local people knows deeply the nature of their country well especially nomards. Golis Mountains is Karkaar mountain. Muscab30 (talk) 11:49, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
You may be familiar with the name of this place as a local, but you need a reliable source for your Wikipedia entry. Reliable sources include books and peer-reviewed articles from reputable publishers. Freetrashbox (talk) 12:18, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
