Entry phots not helpful

According to the entry, none of the photos featured on the page are true goatees! After reading the entry, I guess I still don't understand what a true goatee is. Is it *just* having hair on your chin (with no moustache)?

Cleanup

I've removed some photos whose only value were vanity, cleaned up the article a bit, removed some speculation and generally (I hope) improved the article. If anyone wants to tackle the task of finding some good off-line references that would probably be the next idead step. I'm sure there are some excellent books on the history of just about any facial hair style. -Harmil 15:32, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

This is becoming a vanity page

A more idealized or archetypal example would be better, for example a line drawing, or even a very high quality studio photo. Most of these so called examples are scrawny or crooked, or not very common variants of a goatee. The goatee is a classic facial hair style that can look good, we need an image that reflects that. It turns out the the image in the upper right corner (Art_dehoyos.jpg) doesn't even have a copyright tag so it will go away in a few days on it's own. If you want to improve the page consider making an account first, it's really easy. Also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Goatee has a selection of potential source images to edit or use. The "Goatee.com" site is questionable at best. It's FAQ includes a lot of personal preferences presented as fact...not the least of which being that if you have a goatee, you should try to avoid doing business in Japan because you will be viewed as "barbaric". Evil Goatees?

Would it make sense to mention on this page that Goatees are often used to denote evil characters in certain types of fiction? To me, it seems like it's relevant enough to include on this page. Mirror Universe

The Goatee is very much iconic of the mirror universe, an element of Star Trek which has reached wide recognition. It is extremely likely that this information would be of interest to those researching Goatees who were not already aware of this fact. I therefore propose that a link to Mirror Universe does belong under See Also, and I'm going to go ahead and restore the link pending further discussion on this page. French beard

"French beard" is a common name for goatee in India. Was the slang introduced by the British? Is it prevalent throughout the Commonwealth? Jay (talk) 10:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I can't remember hearing it in Australia. It is not in OED; and since it does appear here in an online dictionary of Indian English, I suspect that it is confined to India.

When I read French beard, the image that came to mind matched the description in the goatee article of the "musketeer" style of beard. So I don't think it is hard to image the connection of the term French beard with these subtypes of goatee. Rmhermen (talk) 21:56, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Google goatee

If you google (images) for goatee, you will see mostly people who have the mustache. This fact must be reflected on this page, it's not the page of "what we wish", it's a page of "what is", and that's how the word goatee is used. Goatee images?

I restored the goatee images that were historical in nature, but not the ones that looked user-submitted. Is there a policy or manual of style reason why we don't want the image gallery? I thought those French line drawings weren't bad either. Andre🚐 03:58, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
