Talk:Gnits standards

The Gnits Standards look to be obsolete and unmaintained. Do we really need this article on them? 74.237.230.9 (talk) 03:03, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Proposed deletion

This article was PRODed, and perhaps rightly so given the lack of third-party references in the article, but I'm pretty sure there must be some out there. Gnits conformance can, IIRC, be invoked via a command-line option to the various GNU Autotools and therefore must be documented in various books and articles on same. If I'm wrong, I have no problem with the article being deleted. —Psychonaut (talk) 11:56, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

As I said in the prod, that's the extent of the notability. That single line can be added to the GNU Build System article and we don't lose anything. That's probably what I'll end up doing. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 12:24, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

If the standards are documented in third-party manuals, then that should satisfy the notability requirements. If the article is to be deleted, I suggest it go through the normal process to give others a chance to come forward with the references, if they exist. —Psychonaut (talk) 20:25, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

The GNU Coding Standards contain much of what was in gnits, but gnits as a document has not bene updated for a long time. See preface on the Wayback machine, which states, "The Gnits (non-)standards are moribund. We leave this online purely for historical purposes; they have not been updated in many years and we have no plans to do so. So cross-references may be broken, etc. These days, the Gnulib, Autoconf, and Automake manuals, cover many of the topics written about here, and are actually maintained." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.94.156.210 (talk) 23:13, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
