Orphaned references in Glossary of medicine

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Glossary of medicine's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Glossary templates?

Recently come across the various {{Glossary}} templates. Is there any objection if we switch from a bulleted list using those instead? If no objections, does anyone know of a bot that could automate the process? Little pob (talk) 13:45, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Little pob, I find it much easier to maintain template based glossaries, but not everyone will agree. An advantage is the ease of linking to an entry as the templates generate anchors, and internal linking is dead simple. There are also a few down sides. The article size will be larger, the template include limit may be exceeded sooner, which will make it necessary to split the article, which makes it necessary to use a special template for inter sub-glossary links and another for an inter sub-glossary table of contents. However this is not difficult to code, and can be copied from existing templates with a little customising. If tou are interested in more details, let me know, or take a look at Glossary of underwater diving terminology and Glossary of nautical terms, which have been split and seem to work fine. I am not skilled with REGEX, but am fairly sure that the find and replace edit tool will do the job with the right REGEX, as long as the wikicode presently used is reasonably consistent. Little pob, I did a demo at this diff using a regex in find and replace to do the basic conversion for section "Y". It seems to work well enough. (reverted after testing, so check the diff) There is a bit more to it, but that is the labour intensive part all automated. It would take a couple of minutes to do the whole page, but would require consensus for the change from the people who edit the page. Does anyone who frequently or substantially edits the Glossary of medicine object to it being converted to glossary templates, and when necessary, split into a set of glossary pages with cross-linked ToCs as described above. Reference - "Hartl D, Jones E (2005)"

There's a reference for the term/definition Genetics that is simply "Hartl D, Jones E (2005)". Is that supposed to be the textbook Essential Genetics: A Genomics Perspective? Lalaithan (talk) 03:39, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
