Another request here. How about the SportAccord's first World Mind Games? This is different from the World Mind SPORTS Games, which is administered by the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA). Also, the first edition is going to be held in Beijing in December 2011. Liquidation

edit

https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1140786/gaisf-liquidation

The liquidation process of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) is officially complete after an Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) today.

Last November, 70 GAISF members voted in favour of dissolving the umbrella body in Lausanne, with 22 going against it.

Following the decision, Swiss firm Ernst & Young were appointed to complete the proceedings, including the distribution of the GAISF's CHF5.66 million (£5.07 million/$6.3 million/€5.9 million) fortune.

Proposal to rename to SportAccord

edit

Although it's kind of a different institution, because of the close interrelation between GAISF and SportAccord, I suggest to rename this article to SportAccord, and amend it accordingly, while keeping the info about GAISF as part of the history.

Otherwise, it could be useful to create an article about SportAccord and de-link it from this article about GAISF, because for the moment SportAccord redirects here.

I prefer the first option, though. Harry Deconstructing (talk) 17:48, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Harry Deconstructing From the recent view, that SportAccord (as a redirect) is listed at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2024_June_20#SportAccord. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:29, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed split

edit

Split Global Association of International Sports Federations into Global Association of International Sports Federations and SportAccord. These are two separate entities with very different activities which did have a little part of a shared history together. However, Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) is now dissolved since the end of 2023 whereas SportAccord continues to organize various annual events (World Sport & Business Summit, The IF Forum, etc.) and has taken on some new activities - none of this is mentioned in the current article, nor is relevant to the context of the GAISF content. SportAccord is a popular event organisation, very well-known in the sports industry and commonly searched for. There's a benefit to keeping this original article but splitting the section about the SportAccord Summits into a new article which can be further expanded with a lot of timely information that is now missing and is not relevant to the current article. There's currently a redirect from a SportAccord article that is misleading as indicated by users on this Talk page. If agreed, I will do the split. • Tbf I have no particular opinions regarding the matter because it is not at all clear to me what the two organisations stand for. Although it seems to be better off as separate articles, my assessment could be wrong due to the ambiguous nature of their status. Thanks! What I can add here from my understanding is - perhaps they used to be one combined organisation that divided at some point. Now the Global Association of International Sports Federations no longer exists whereas SportAccord continuies to operate primarily as an event organisation. SportAccord organinises popular conferences and competitions whereas GAISF used to be an umbrella organisation that catered to the interests and needs of Sports Federations and supported them overall. That's why it seems it makes sense to have this clear distinction by splitting into two separate articles which potentially will help with everyone's confusion. Split The Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) is a defunct organization that no longer exists; it acted as an umbrella organizations for various sports federations. SportAccord is a new organization that runs a summit. They are distinct entities with distinct aims and actions. There should never been a redirect from the latter to the former in the first place! (With apologies to whichever well-intended person created it) Tompw (talk) 21:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Split When I was reading about this topic recently, the redirect was super confusing since the article mentions them as separate entities and links to SportAccord which just redirected to the same page. If anything, a section explaining differences could be included. CaptainCookie (talk) 13:47, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Update: Split Completed - I completed the suggested split and changes can be reviewed both on the Global Association of International Sports Federations article (section "Summits") and on the new SportAccord article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JennyAnderson 2 (talkcontribs) 09:37, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
