Robert Palmer version

Right now, there's more information about this cover than about Devo's original release. IMO that just seems kind of dumb. There's no reason for there to be anything here but a mention of the cover. If you take exception to this one cover, you may as well add Soundgarden's version and all the covers of Whip It and every other Devo song other bands have covered in the past. By comparison, there is only a brief mention of Devo's cover of Are U X-Perienced-- no mentions of any chart position or what track it was in Shout or the personnel involved or anything like that. Simply put, the screen and a half of info on the cover of this 1 Devo song should be on the page for the album it was released on and not this one. oh,no! it's NATE547 06:32, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

• I don't believe that's reason to remove information on a NOTABLE cover version of the song which is reliably sourced and rightfully has a place in the article - it's the same song and was also released as a single. No one is stopping anyone from adding information on the original version (of this or any Devo song) but to remove a large chunk of the article just because it covers more information seems unnecessary. • Why is this one cover any more notable than anyone else's? By this logic, there should be a section like this for every band's cover of this song. I didn't just arbitrarily remove the Robert Palmer section because it was longer than anything else, I removed it because it's almost 8000 bytes of information about one artist's cover. In comparison, I could add the same amount of information about Devo's "Are U X-Perienced" to that article, but I'm not going to because it should be mostly about Jimi Hendrix's original version. Bulleted lists and subsections about covers belong on the articles for the albums where those covers were released. If no page like that exists, then make one. If no album was ever released, well, tough. Thank you for adding the extra info about the original Devo, but I'm still going to pare down the Robert Palmer section. oh,no! it's NATE547 05:08, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
  • It's actually not a bad balance between the two. Yes, of course, more readers would expect more information on the original by Devo, and if one finds additional sourced information about it, it can be added. Nothing about the Robert Palmer version is particularly significant (it was released as a single, it charted, and received a comment in a review in passing about the album), but it is sourced. The personnel section should maybe limit itself to the production details of this song only. Additional covers would have to achieved a similar status to warrant further details. Note that this is an issue every time Mariah Carey ("I Want to Know What Love Is), Celine Dion ("I Drove All Night") or Madonna ("American Pie") cover another's song. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars^{Talk to me} 17:52, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
