Rose's Degree Class

edit

"She graduated with upper second-class honours." As das as I am aware second class in finals was not divided at Oxford until the 1980s, so it would not have been possible for Rose to graduate "with upper second-class honours". If that is what is claimed in the ODNB, with further proof, one must assume it is a mistake. Rose might well have been said, by her tutor, or on the basis of the grades in her finals paper to have got a "good" second, but that's not technically the same thing, unless she went back and got the examiners to award her an upper second formally on the basis of her finals marks. I doubt she would have bothered or even that such a thing is possible (especially if he had proceeded to her MA), but then people, especially academics, do do all sorts of strange things. pmcray (talk) 17:03, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
