Stephen Gilbert and Gilbert Ralston

edit

It is often written that Gilbert Ralston wrote Ratman's Notebook under the alias Stephen Gilbert. But when I look here both men have different dates of death. How come? -- 95.90.34.31 (talk) 08:27, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Now there is an addition stating that they where not the same person. However, ther is no source at all. If someone can make clear whether they where the same person or not I'd be thankful. -- 188.195.195.198 (talk) 12:57, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

They were not the same person. Someone at some point in the past has put two and two together and got five. Stephen Gilbert was born in 1912 and died in 2010. I do not know when Gilbert Ralston was born, but I suspect the date quoted here is wrong (as the birth information in this article is that of Stephen Gilbert). This article contained incorrect information, which I've just deleted. The whole thing may need to be revised. Contrary to what the article formerly said, there are two different people, Gilbert Ralston and Stephen Gilbert. The confusion seems to have arisen from the fact that Stephen Gilbert wrote a novel called Ratman's Notebooks, which Gilbert Ralston adapted into a film screenplay. The only thing they have in common is that they both have "Gilbert" somewhere in their names.

Stephen Gilbert (b. 1912) in County Down, Northern Ireland and still alive today, was the author of a number of novels and later a farmer. He is NOT the same person as Gilbert Ralston.

As far as I can find Gilbert Ralston never had anything to do with Northern Ireland, but I cannot be 100% sure. Stephen Gilbert died in June 2010 having lived most of his life in Northern Ireland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.220.110.208 (talk) 17:10, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
