Gigafactory 2 already in New York? edit

Tesla is now calling (in Q4 2016 update [1]) the SolarCity manufacturing plant in New York the Gigafactory 2. Should we change the article content to reflect this new information? --Ita140188 (talk) 07:15, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Good catch. Although it is a WP:PRIMARY source, naming their facilities as they see fit is Tesla's prerogative. For starters the article can be updated with the new, sourced information. Lklundin (talk) 07:48, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
The content of this article is not compatible with the Buffalo solar factory. An alternative solution is to rename this article as Gigafactory Europe or Tesla Gigafactory Europe, and then set Gigafactory 2 as a redirect to SolarCity until further edits. I went ahead and moved this article to Tesla Gigafactory Europe before seeing this discussion. Also combined the info someone had already added at the bottom about the name change with info I added. --Pmsyyz (talk) 09:54, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Statement of notability edit

The notability comes from the countries that are fighting over it, and not because it is a Tesla facility. Being a Tesla facility is unrelated to the notability of this factory, since the political conflict gives the notability, and that is already documented. If it were a GM facility or an Airbus facility, it would be the same. The political games to acquire the plant make it notable, not the fact that it is a plant of a particular company. -- 65.94.168.229 (talk) 04:12, 18 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The selection process for Gigafactory 1 was controversial, partly due to Tax competition. Similarly, the EU-Apple tax conflict (the world's largest) is controversial in Europe, as they are for Facebook and maybe Google. Media descriptions of the Europe selection process together with official efforts by authorities make GF2 a notable subject, tax or no tax. There is no need to wait for controversy to die down before creating an article. TGCP (talk) 18:20, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I added the Notablity template so that the article can be reviewed by editors for its current notability worthiness. The current article is of a speculative nature, since the subject does not officially exist, nor have its features (foremostly, location) been officially announced. At this stage it's probably best to transfer its useful content to the main Tesla Inc article, as the standalone existence of the article is hardly justified as of this date. With the announcement of the Gigafactory Berlin location today by the CEO of Tesla, the notability discussion would appear to be over. The article now clearly meets WP:GNG. I would expect a large number of edits in the coming days with many secondary sources. I have removed the notability tag. Cheers. N2e (talk) 03:42, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

GF4 building has been on site for years,[April Fools!] though not quite as large as was alluded to. More photos here. TGCP (talk) 17:29, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Contract irregularities, broken promises, illegal construction, employees in german Media reporting abusive working conditions.

Why isn't there a seperate section for these things. The article as is buries the most salient information. Talonx78.55.173.227 (talk) 14:41, 27 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
