The result of the move request was: Not moved. This appears to be better suited to a merge as suggested below, with this page title to become a redirect or deleted. I have separated this move request from the merge discussion below it, which is linked from the articles' merge tags. (closed by a page mover) What's in your palette? Paine 03:36, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
International Material Gifts From Outside Mainland China During the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests → ? – This article needs a better title; "International Material Gifts From Outside Mainland China During the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests" doesn't seem to capture it. At a minimum, the case needs to be fixed, but there are probably better words for it. Any suggestions? - Agree. The "from outside mainland China" is redundant because how could you have International gifts from inside China? Also the title is confusing as I thought when first reading that it might be gifts to the Chinese government not the protesters. The title doesn't make it clear who the recipient is. May I suggest, "International assistance to the 1989 Tiananmen Square protesters" or even "International assistance to Tiananmen protesters". Rincewind42 (talk) 05:44, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- I think shorter is better (within reason), so while those are both good suggestions, I prefer "International assistance to Tiananmen protesters". TJRC (talk) 17:51, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
- I only visited this page wondering what it was all about. Strange that such a long title could be so ambiguous. Shorter is necessary. How about Foreign (direct) support of Tiananmen Square Protests? Or Foreign donations to...?--XANIA - ЗAНИAWikipedia talk | Wikibooks talk 16:15, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
- Trim and merge – This Must Be The Most Convoluted Title Ever Seen On WikiPedia! Rather than scratching our heads to invent an appropriate title, I would advocate summarizing the contents and merging them into 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests, under a section "Foreign donations" which could be tucked nicely between "Foreign media" and "International reaction". — JFG talk 11:55, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Merge discussion
editUpon researching JFG's suggestion about merge, I discovered a related article Finances of Student Organizations during the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989. (It seems that both articles were created by throwaway accounts of the same person, so it's useless to ping the authors). In my opinion it would make more sense to merge these two articles into one, rather than into comprehensive 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests. I'm at loss at the title, though. - Support a merge of Gifts and donations... into Finances of Student Organizations.... Keep the latter title for now. — AjaxSmack 17:49, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support this seems to be part of greater efforts by a university course to contribute to Wikipedia's content on the 1989 protests. While I am in favour of this effort and commend the professor in charge of this, I do wish they paid more attention to Wikipedia's quality standards in general and not simply contribute and leave the pages "hanging" once a student is done creating the page.
