Pronounciation

How do you say 'gettone'? Is it really a cognate for the English "get-tone"?

Use of the token

I deleted this part, previously on the page:
"In parts of Italy, and expatriate Italian communities, the Gettone Telefonico has taken on a significance beyond the original and intended use. When exchanged, (especially when offered by a woman to a man), the Gettone Telefonico symbolizes strong attraction, intense passion, and complete commitment and loyalty. Tradition holds that a man betrayed by a woman who has once offered the Gettone Telefonico, may exact the punishment of his choice - with the community's implicit sanction. Sexual slavery resulting from Gettone Telefonico betrayal is not unheard of.".
I'm Italian and I've never seen this kind of use of the token. Neither other Italian who I asked. I don't know if Italians abroad did/do this, but I don't think so. Greetings -- Jaakko 9 (talk) 15:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

This needs confirmation before going back into the article

LOL... Quite funny. This paragraph in a sense is reminiscent of Borat and the way they marry women in Khazakhstan... :) I am Italian, and I would say that the original author of this paragraph was joking. By the way, why devote an entry specifically to Italy's gettone, when telephone tokens are in use in other countries as well? Wouldn't it make more sense to write an entry on telephone tokens in general and then have paragraphs of the article describing the single national variants of this form of payment.
