Naming conventions

edit

I've moved this back to Get off of My Cloud because prepositions shouldn't be capitalised in song article titles. See Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Album_titles_and_band_names. Extraordinary Machine 14:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

But, that rule is trumped by prepositions that are part of phrasal verbs ... should be "Get Off of My Cloud". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.27.170 (talk) 12:41, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree that this page should be renamed "Get Off of My Cloud". Phrasal verbs, such as "get off", are recognized in the wikipedia music project, WP:MUSTARD#Capitalization, and can be capitalized --Wolfer68 (talk) 00:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Questions

edit

Does anyone know if the "guy all dressed up in the union jack" refers to Pete Townshend of The Who? He wore a Jacket made of Union Jack in his early carrer when it was the Beatles the Stones and the Who in the world of music. Could this line be Jagger telling the Who to stop taking their fans and thus their money and populartiy. This is just a theory on my part but I can't think of anyone else that line would refer too. I don't think it is anyone in the world of music. It seems to be an extension of the complaint in Satisfaction that commercialism is somehow intruding into his space "he can't be a man if he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me". But the "guy all dressed up like a union jack" is promoting a detergent.Consolidated.bits (talk) 06:12, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think we are missing a couple of obvious clues as to the meaning of the song if we don't examine the probable drug themes. "Get Off of My Cloud" could be a metaphor for someone's drug use and the anti-social attitude that goes with it.

In the opening lyrics the narrator announces that he lives in an apartment "on the ninety-ninth floor of my block". Can he really mean that his apartment building has ninety-nine floors? Not likely. Isn't it more likely a code saying he is high on drugs?Consolidated.bits (talk) 06:12, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Getoffmycloudstones.jpg

edit

Image:Getoffmycloudstones.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:52, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Who played the piano?

edit

In Get Off of My Cloud#Personnel in says that Brian Jones played the piano part. But in http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOGetOff.html it says that it was Ian Stewart. I don't know which is more accurate.--Kevjgav (talk) 04:41, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Not Blues Rock

edit

I've changed the genre back to "Rock & Roll". I've not changed the source because the source backs up what I'm saying (more than it supports the "blues rock" anyway). It has been tagged "Rock & Roll" nine times while only been tagged once as "Blues Rock". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.199.196.13 (talk) 03:28, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
