Talk:German submarine U-451

Issues edit

This article, although relatively short, has a number of issues:

1. I've changed the 'fate' in the infobox as uboat.net and other references (and the main text of the article), all say that U451 was sunk 'near Tangiers' not Ostia (which is in Italy).
2. Who are the quotes in the 'Loss' section attributed to? They just pop up, with no introduction or explanation.
3. What does "the prisoner (what prisoner?) flung himself into the water..." have to do with anything, particularly U-451?
4. What sort of ship (I presume it is a ship!) is the Myostis?

In response, I compiled the orginal article. I shall address your comments.
1. There were conflicts in the sources - the account citing off Tangiers seems the more credible as it a.) gave the details of the attacking aircraft which b.) was known to be operating out of Gibralter, NOT in range of Italy.
2.The quotes are taken from the U-boat Archive website (cited) with no further attribution. (Which see.)
3. The fate of the prisoner is significant in that he was the sole survivor of the crew by way of being left on deck when the boat submerged, and was therefore the only Kriegsmarine eyewitness to the loss.
4. The type of vessel that the Myositis was was not further described in the source account. My guess- but not for citation - is a Greek commercial vessel.
