Please help edit

I saw this entry on the pages needing to be wikified. The original author of this never provided sources, so I have no idea how to validate this information because I am not an expert on the topic. Can anyone point me in a direction where I can attempt to verify this information? Furthermore, is this a copyright violation? It looks like it was copy/pasted right into wikipedia. Thanks! --BWD 06:03, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

What is going on here? edit

I'm sorry, but I'm really baffled as to the reason for deleting this information. I'm pretty sure everything is reliably sourced, as I wrote it myself after reading the sources, which I've provided in-line citations for. Could someone tell me more specifically what is in question so that I can either reword or add better citations? — Bdb484 (talk) 13:07, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Anybody? If not, I'm happy to restore the content. — Bdb484 (talk) 01:35, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
This is a biography. Contentious claims must be strongly sourced, and peripheral claims not directly relating to the person do not belong here. Cheers. Collect (talk) 01:44, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the helpful link. As a longtime editor, though, I'm already familiar with the policy. I'm asking for more specific information about the claims that you feel are not sourced strongly enough or are peripheral. Cheers. — Bdb484 (talk) 17:54, 14 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Should I take your silence to mean that after reviewing the content, you weren't able to find any specific claims to question? As I said, I'm happy to restore them for you. Cheers. — Bdb484 (talk) 19:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
No. Any claims which are contentious about a living person require strong RS sourcing for the specific claim. Cheers. Collect (talk) 21:22, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm still not sure whether I'm being unclear or you're being recreationally obtuse.
I was hoping that after making such drastic changes, you'd be willing to come to the talk page and articulate your concerns more meaningfully, preferably with specific examples of passages that concern you and explanations why you feel the provided citations are insufficient.
Having personally taken the time to collect those sources and tailor the article to match them, I have a pretty high degree of confidence in all the content that you ripped out. That's why I'm asking for something a little more substantive than mindless repetition of BLP policy. An explanation of how you purport to apply that policy seems like a reasonable expectation. Double cheers. — Bdb484 (talk) 00:08, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
It seems like we may be at an impasse. Perhaps a fresh set of eyes would be helpful. — Bdb484 (talk) 19:31, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
  Response to third opinion request:
I have taken a third opinion request for this page and have reviewed the issues thoroughly. The third opinion process is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of uninvolved eyes. I have made no previous edits on this page that I am aware of and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. If you feel that my answer is not appropriate, or not thorough enough I may be contacted to add to it, or an additional third opinion may be sought by replacing the {{3O}} template. I hope this reply is of assistance and I am expressly open to feedback, barnstars, kittens, or trout slaps on my talk page! <Bdb, I don't see any problem with the citation you're providing. Yes, Wiki asks for a higher standard of sourcing for a living person, but it's the major newspaper in the area, so this meets the heightened criteria, IMO.

I will say that your addition doesn't appear to directly tie the project's bankruptcy to Trejo. From your addition, it looks as though Trejo proposed the center, and then the center couldn't get enough funding and went bankrupt. However, when I looked at the article, it seems that people are directly blaming Trejo for this failure (rightfully or not.) You may want to tie it in a bit more to show the relationship between Trejo and the bankruptcy.>—JoelWhy (talk) 19:50, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback. I've made some changes that I hope will clarify Trejo's involvement with the project and the links between the center's bankruptcy and his efforts to promote it. Let me know if you think it still needs work. — Bdb484 (talk) 01:23, 21 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reverted IP edits edit

Hi there. You messaged me on my talk page asking about the reason for my reversion of your recent edits.

The information you added was deleted because it was not accompanied by citations to reliable sources that support the claims you made.

For instance, you said that Trejo was born in Morelia, but you didn't provide any documentation to support that claim. Until you have that documentation from a reliable source, that information can't be included. You also said he went to Ohio State University, but did not provide any documentation to support that claim.

Of course, the article already says that Trejo graduated from OSU, so your addition was also redundant.

Give me a hand edit

I am going to be adding a lot of information to the Trejo page that I have accumulated. Since you are obviously a very experienced Wiki editor, I would really appreciate you giving me a hand at fleshing out the information. Over the next couple of days I will be putting in the info and it would be really great if you can help me to cite things. All of the information that I have is verified either on the internet of by interviews that I have had with Trejo personally. How can I reference that?

- Stanley.garland (talk) 08:55, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm happy to help. Can you tell me more about how you know Trejo and interviewed him? That would help in figuring out the best way to deal with this information. — Bdb484 (talk) 17:22, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I am writing a book on notable Latinos. I am a freelance writer-journalist, I am particularly interested in Latino political leaders, so that is why I contacted Trejo and asked for an interview, which he gracefully granted. When doing research I found the Wiki page and as I have done a bit of wiki editing and writing here and there over the years. I decided to try to incorporate some of the info that I amassed from various sources, including the internet, interviews, with him and others etc. I wonder if I might send you all that I have, it is like 2 pages in a Word doc. and see if you can help me a bit since you have a wealth of experience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:8065:240:9DF6:8795:B159:A6C5 (talk) 14:46, 24 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
If you want to give me your e-mail, I can contact you so you can share whatever you'd like.
You should also make sure you always sign in before you start editing. Bouncing back and forth between user accounts with different names and IP addresses could get you into hot water. — Bdb484 (talk) 17:11, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads of about logging in. I often forget to do that and occasionally log in from the office and well as home. Due to filters in place and such I have to use different accounts. I digress, stanley.garland@gmail is my email and if you will send me an email then I can respond with of the info that I have written up and maybe we can work together to get it sorted properly. I really appreciate your help and hope that I can learn a lot from you since I enjoy editing for wiki and would like to learn how to do it better. You are a wealth of experience. thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stanley.garland (talkcontribs) 14:46, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

BLP edit

Following on from the request for page protection, I wonder whether this page is a WP:BLP1E violation. The only notability is a relatively minor, and negative, local business issue from 2007. Sarah (SV) (talk) 19:17, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I guess it would depend on how you define "one event." Trejo's notability derives almost entirely from Centro Mexicano, but there were several different events related to it that were the subject of coverage -- its founding, its development, its funding problems, and its eventual bankruptcy. I can imagine a way to argue that all of that is a single event, but I at least wouldn't read it that way.
Besides that, there's also news coverage of him based on his activities at Ohio State, and also some other coverage that confers notability, but just isn't in the article now. — Bdb484 (talk) 17:39, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Bdb, I've added full protection because of the reverting. Because neither version was BLP compliant, I've spliced the best of the two. This is just a makeshift solution for the protection period.
Looking ahead, I would suggest moving this to Draft:Germán Trejo to make sure it's comprehensive in terms of anything notable, and that everything is properly sourced and fair. Then perhaps consider nominating it for AfD if notability apart from that bankruptcy can't be established.
Two issues: his name here (p. 140) is Germán Gilberto Trejo Caballero. If he has formally dropped Caballero, that's fine, but the middle name might be worth adding. Also, File:German Trejo.jpg was published in 2006 by Columbus Business First, and uploaded to WP in 2007. That might suggest it isn't free. Perhaps someone could ask Columbus Business First whether they own the copyright. Sarah (SV) (talk) 17:59, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Was the BLP problem with the version I had restored just the BLP1E issue, or do you see other problems, as well? As you can see, we've had a few discussions about this previously, but it seemed like everything had been worked out. — Bdb484 (talk) 18:22, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
The biography consisted almost entirely of a local bankruptcy from eight years ago, so it ran into BLP1E and WP:COATRACK problems. If the bankruptcy really is the only notable thing, deletion might be the better option. If there are other notable issues, they should be added, but you said above there are remaining negative issues.
If I were writing this article, I would email the subject and ask whether he wants it, bearing in mind that it's going to contain any negative material that was been reliably published. If he doesn't want it, I would probably take it to AfD and tell people there that the subject has requested deletion. Sarah (SV) (talk) 18:55, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
