UK

edit

Article seems overly focused on UK version of geriatrics, rather than a more generic description of it. Glacialfury (talk) 23:55, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

GOAL The goal of this edit is to understand the perception of ageing, ways to 'delay' ageing with natural ingredients, and the use of cosmeceuticals.

Geriatrics vs. Health Care of the Elderly

edit

As a medical student in the UK, I have recently been told that we are to refer to geriatrics/health care of the elderly as Health Care of the Elderly, as is has fewer connotations and is deemed to be less insulting to patients. I see that there is currently no wikipedia page called Health Care of the Elderly, so would like to propose two points:

Unfortunately, I can't find any sources to back up this potential change in nom-culture, but I've not had the time to look very deeply at all. Opinions, anyone?Ged3000 (talk) 14:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC) (edit to improve formatting, Ged3000 (talk) 14:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC))Reply

I think option 1 is best, since geriatrics is a clearly defined medical field. The term you suggest is not used in many other countries, which is a problem for option 2. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 15:55, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I'd agree. A quick google search didn't show up anything suggesting that there was a government movement to change the name in the UK, and nothing else on the matter really... I must've misunderstood/misheard whoever it was who told me that initially. Thanks! Ged3000 (talk) 17:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see that you've created the redirect page, thankyou. I've added "Health Care of the Elderly" to the start of the introduction paragraph - I hope this is deemed appropriate. Ged3000 (talk) 19:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've created a new page Health Care of the Elderly that hard redirects to Geriatrics. Not sure what became of previous. Nk.sheridan   Talk 00:58, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone named Ashashyou has gone to a great deal of trouble making a mess of this page.

I donot understand do you like it or not? If not, what is not good?--Ashashyou (talk) 19:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I like your edits. I've made some spelling changes so don't worry too much about those. Keep up the good work! --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:33, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks--Ashashyou (talk) 20:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
My main concern was the numerous spelling errors which resulted in bad internal links; Steven Fruitsmaak has corrected many of those. Thanks for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patricia Meadows (talkcontribs) 03:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hospital Elder Life Program

edit

This entire paragraph reads like an advertising brochure for Yale's eldercare program. I'm not sure that it belongs in a general encyclopedia entry, since it is unclear what it adds to understanding the topic. mattelfesso (talk) 23:13, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Please modify the Hospital Elder Life Program section to reflect the following:

"The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP)[1][2] is a model of hospital care developed by Dr. Sharon Inouye [SI1] in 1995 at the Yale University School of Medicine. While developed to prevent delirium and functional decline of older adults during hospitalization, the program creates age-friendly care across all settings, based on principles and protocols to optimize care for older adults. The primary goals of the program (since its inception in 1995) are:

- Maintaining cognitive and physical functioning of high risk older adults throughout hospitalization - Maximizing independence at discharge - Assisting with the transition from hospital to home - Preventing unplanned hospital readmissions"

Thank you, Agalberth (talk) 15:54, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I removed this section from the article as it is uncited, promotional and mostly off-topic for this article. Z1720 (talk) 00:55, 7 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Foundations 2 Group 3a goal

edit

The goal of this edit is to understand the perception of ageing, the use of natural ingredients to 'delay' ageing, and the use of cosmeceutical

1) This article has addressed all the goals intended. 2) None of the information seems plagiarized to best of my understanding 3) The edits in this article do contribute to the overall value of this article --Inshaqari (talk) 02:11, 8 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Foundations II Group 3A Goals

edit

Goals: 1) correct grammar and syntax to reduce reader confusion

UCSF Foundations II Course Group 3c Peer Review:

edit

1) Do the group's edits improve the article as described in the Wikipedia peer review "Guiding framework"? Yes, the article is generally easy to read and free from major grammatical errors. 2) Has the group achieved its overall goals for improvement? The group has some great area of potential development such as "aging and cosmeceuticals". They had mentioned a goal of exploring the natural products and this could be an interesting area to try to expand into the evidence behind "anti-aging" products, etc. Another area of potential development could be the "Pharmacology" section. This would be an excellent area to bring updates and relevance by exploring more recent evidence (it's currently from 2006), for example, studies that highlight important areas such as adherence and inappropriate medication use.Ellenberkley (talk) 00:09, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Person A: does the draft submission reflect a neutral point of view? The draft submission reflects a neutral point of view that does not seem to persuade the reader in a particular way. The "Giants" of geriatrics section could be a great area of development to add evidence since these issues that geriatrics are facing are increasing with the increasing life expectancy. Ellenberkley (talk) 22:41, 5 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Person B:

Person C: The edits are consistent with Wikipedia's manual of style, but would suggest more specification in Self-perception of aging and cosmetics, as the 'self-perception' is not explicitly stated. Jhpham (talk)

Person D: The group contribution are written in layman's term and does not display any evidence of plagiarism.

I appreciated the word choice changes to make the overall language of the page more concise and easier to understand. I also appreciate the distinction between geriatrics and gerontology, as it was something I had not known before. Ultimately, your edits made the page much more coherent than before and your additions of citations made the page more complete. Noorc7 (talk) 18:31, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
The edits made to this page strengthen the quality of this article, particularly the section on geriatric syndromes. I think the clarity of the language used in the edits is a highlight. A suggestion for improvement might be to add more content on polypharmacy, since it is a meaningful topic within geriatric pharmacology or potentially a seperate subject worth its own subsection.FlavumTown (talk) 17:38, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
