Gerald or Gerard?
editMany authoritative sources spell the first name "Gerald". These sources include the Army List, Who's Who, The Times (several mentions widely spaced in time, including marriage and death notices), the London Gazette (many mentions widely spaced in time) and the National Portrait Gallery. Neither The Times nor the London Gazette ever uses the spelling "Gerard". In view of this overwhelming evidence I think it's safe to say that the spelling "Gerard", which appears in www.generals.dk and some books, is mistaken. Stanning (talk) 14:53, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
