For whatever it's worth I had some e-mail discussions with George while researching his famous father.

I'm truly saddened and shocked that he is dead. Though it has been a number of years since last contact it feels like I talked to him just yesterday. He had an odd and wonderful sense of humor.

In our discussions he mentioned that "The Manna Machine" was the result of a number of factors. His interest in translating Hebrew and his partnership with Rodney Dale. According to George the book was actually a bit of a joke. He and Dale simply found that the description in Hebrew lent itself to speculation on that description actually being a machine. He and Dale "ran with" the idea. Getting it published, according to George, was a joke on the owner of the publishing company. Wjbean 16:26, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Manna Machine was also published as a bona-fide scientific article. NB: the date of the issue (All Fools Day). The Manna Machine, George Sassoon and Rodney Dale, New Scientist, April 1, 1976. Quacksalber 22:41, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
