Sources edit

http://nraontherecord.org/george-kollitides/ What makes this source unreliable? [1] Is any of the information false?Felsic2 (talk) 16:10, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Whether they posted something that is false or not isn't what makes them a RS. The standards from the policy of reliable sources include a reputation for reliability and editorial oversight. I don't see anything indicating editorial oversight and the reliability is questionable when their "about" section makes them look highly partisan and the bulk of their content is summarizing news reports or cherry-picking quotes with little or no context. I'd question it anywhere, but especially when used in a BLP. One of the things it was used to source is already sourced with another, reliable source. The second, his education, can be found in the Bloomberg source too, so there's not need to use the questionable one. The last is the bit about the NY Pistol Assoc....and I bet you can find that from a real source if you do a little work. I don't doubt that it's true, which is why I didn't remove it. I ain't gonna do no fucking work when you just follow around behind me deleting stuff. "Reputation for reliability and editorial oversight"? I guess that means we oughta go delete all the citations to the NRA. Felsic2 (talk) 18:13, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • I removed a source and no information so don't get your panties in a bunch. The NRA can be used as a source for itself in most cases if there isn't another source availabe, just like Ford can be used as a source for its own board of directors or product line. If you want to contest it, I'm game...... we'll put it on the RSN and get some outside input. Niteshift36 (talk) 19:03, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Clean up per Wikipedia policies and style edit

I've overhauled this article to bring it in line with Wikipedia policies and style, namely:

Here are some of the errors that I have corrected:

  • "Kollitides is a Managing Director of A&M Capital Opportunities" to "managing director" - see WP:JOBTITLES
  • " a billion-dollar private equity-owned, manufacturing company composed of top sporting and outdoor brands, which he was responsible for building" to "a private equity-owned holding company he built composed of sporting and outdoor manufacturers" -- see WP:NPOV.
  • "He also sits on the Good Sports New York Advisory Board, which provides a diverse range of sporting equipment to youth in need, and is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (“YPO”), a global community of leaders committed to better leadership through lifelong learning and idea exchange." to "He also sits on the Good Sports New York Advisory Board and is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO)." -- too much detail not directly about the subject of the article.
  • "Kollitides is a sportsman who cares deeply about the outdoors and conservation." -- deleted. Come on, how is this neutral or factual? This is an encyclopedia article, not a publicist's puff-piece.
  • Acronyms (“YPO”, etc.): Wikipedia does not put defined acronyms in quotation mark- lawyers do. See WP:ACRONYM.

If the unregistered editor continues to revert these edits, the page should probably be protected. Ground Zero | t 21:37, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

The edit war is continuing despite my attempt to initiate a discussion here. The same typos, and punctuation errors keep getting restored, and there is still no regard for neutrality, one of the pillars of Wikipedia. So edits by unregistered editors will be reviewed now before they are entered.

I have made one of the edits requested. The others I have not for the reasons identified above. I have reordered the career section to be in chronological order instead of reverse chronological order, which is easier for the reader to follow, and makes the syntax simpler.

This article needs more references to reliable sources. Ground Zero | t 14:05, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

To echo what others have said, I struggle to see why this individual is sufficiently notable to merit inclusion in Wikipedia. The only source that seemed even partially sufficient was the 40 Under 40 award, for which the link is dead. Unless there is strong disagreement, I may nominate this article for deletion given its lack of notability and the fact that a notability notice has been pending since 2016... I wish I'd known about commenting on Wikipedia. Is it too late to strike this NRA member, gun violence loving, asshat from the records? 2600:1700:87C0:2FC0:5849:6B1A:7BC6:DA87 (talk) 16:54, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
