Reference for Polk portrait edit

I'd removed a sentence about a portrait of Sarah Polk from this article because it was unsourced. Theroadislong has added it back, with better detail, but sourced to www.requestaprint.net. Sorry, but I can't see how that is a WP:RS. I had previously found mention of this painting in this book, but that is published by iUniverse, a print-on-demand operation, so is not reliable either. Can we find better sourcing for this? That might help to demonstrate notability for this apparently mostly (and rightly!) forgotten artist. I plan to nominate this for deletion unless some stronger sources are added in the next day or so. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:58, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

You are right it is a very poor source and I hadn't realised that the painting was merely a copy, this confers no notability at all! It should probably go to WP:AFD. Theroadislong (talk) 19:01, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
User:Justlettersandnumbers: I have fixed the sources--added more sources, removed unreliable ones--and rephrased some of the text. It looks fine as a referenced stub now, doesn't it?Zigzig20s (talk) 21:19, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, Zigzig20s, it's much improved – thank you! I've made a few small changes. A few things I think still need attention:
  • a work such as this should not be listed as "by" him when it is merely attributed
  • This source does not support anything in the article beyond name and dates; was there intended to be a mention of the attempt at an academy?
  • this source doesn't seem relevant to what it is attached to (his marriage).
– but over to you for those. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:34, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
User:Justlettersandnumbers: Better now please?Zigzig20s (talk) 12:47, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Indeed – thank you for paying attention to those very minor nit-picking details, Zigzig20s. I'm still uncomfortable to see the text say that he became a portraitist in the United States when it's clear that he had already painted portraits of notable figures (both the wife and the mistress of the king, for example) while still in Bavaria. I've rephrased it.Zigzig20s (talk) 19:19, 1 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
