Proposed split edit

This is a rather confused article. The title suggests that the scope is a park. Much of the content is a bio. Assuming that George Denton is notable, this should be split into two standalone articles. Schwede66 00:45, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, its about a park and the reason the park exists. (I mean the man its named after is the reason it exists) Waiting on more info about the park the bulk of which might now be part of Zealandia. Clarification is proceeding. Could you venture an opinion as to whether or not the man might be considered notable? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 01:25, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Looking on PapersPast, I do get the impression he is notable, mostly for his activities in relation to the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. I haven't found an article that goes into any biographical depths (apart from the obituary), but he gets tons of mentions over the decades. Here he's speaking at the same event as Walter Buller. There is some biographical material in the book An Eye for Country: The Life and Work of Leslie AdkinLeslie Adkin was his grandson. There's quite a bit of detail in another book, History Making a Difference: New Approaches from Aotearoa. So yes, to split off a bio is justified. In the article's current state, it doesn't leave much for the park itself, including the question whether it is notable itself. But that wasn't your question, I suppose. Thank you very much indeed. I will organise the split and then wait for any consensus about the fate of the separate articles but I need a few more days for fact checking and stuff. Eddaido (talk) 03:06, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm told Denton is also mentioned in Mary McEwen's biography of Charles Fleming (ornithologist). Eddaido (talk) 13:40, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Agree with the suggestion to split into two articles, one on the person and one on the park. MurielMary (talk) 09:07, 8 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not sure what you meant three months ago when you said "I will organise the split" but I've now done it. Schwede66 19:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
