Talk:Geomorphic mapboard

Plural? edit

This should be Geomorphic mapboard, I think, for consistency. Their usefulness comes in multiples, but the entry should be singular. -- JHunterJ 19:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edge features edit

I just removed the German-style reference as the given example generally aren't considered such. However, looking at the sentence again, I'm not sure they use geomorphic mapboards either.

A case like Settlers or Kings and things is obvious. Each 'board' has one type of terrain which fills it entirely, and makes no reference to what may be placed adjacent. In fact, they're really using tiles.

So what really defines a geomorphic board is that it must have features along the edges, that must be matched by any board it is placed adjacent to. My memory is dim, but I don't remember whether this is true in RoboRally. I kind of remember walls might exist along board edges, but I don't remember if they were designed to always line up with walls on matching boards. And in Magic Realm this is done purely by putting a road through the center of each side. I'm not sure a single common centered feature is really enough to count for this (do the MR rules call them geomorphic, or just tiles?). If they do count, then some Eurogames such as Carcassonne would count for this.

Of course, the world at large is generally ignorant of this use of 'geomorphic'. Does anyone have an article or set of rules where AH or SPI talk about what they mean when they say 'geomorphic'? --Rindis (talk) 18:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
