Plates, Cratons, Terranes, and Sutures edit

When you compare notes, it does not seem obvious whether there could be one or several microplates between East Antarctica and the Scotia Plate.

Nonetheless, it may be that West Antarctica is not either a separate plate or an array of microplates, but rather sutured or at lease partially sutured cratons and terranes.

The basic question is, how complete does suturing need to be for there to be cratons and terranes rather than microplates, and the boundaries of the use of terminology in the references does not seem to be clear either.
