Talk:General Service Corps

I don't think the GSC was formed in 1914. Officers could be put on the General List in those days but the GSC was not formed until the Second World War. Some confusion may stem from the fact that officers on the General List wore the same badge that was adopted by the GSC. Yet more confusion may come from sites like Ancestry interpreting "GSC" on WWI attestation forms as General Service Corps when in fact it stood for General Service - Cavalry. GSI was the infantry equivalent. Apologies for not providing evidence (as short of time) but it won't be hard to find. Just wanted to get the ball rolling.

STOP PRESS: The reference (currently [2]) used in the article to back up the GSC's supposed foundation in 1914 leads to an Imperial War Museum site about the GSC cap badge. If read carefully it pretty much says what I've said above.

The first of the very few mentions of the GSC in the London Gazette is in 1945.[1] -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:39, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Similarly the CWGC has no GSC casualties registered for the First War. Apologies I didn't have time to do the editing myself but I see someone's had a stab at it. Thanks!TomboPC (talk) 15:33, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
