Additional Information

Could someone add information about the digital short messaging and location services that are now permitted on GMRS handhelds? AM or FM

According to §95.631(a), Other modulations including AM are allowed. The fact that only FM is used is a consequence of available equipment. I suggest the first sentence of the page be rephrased from "land-mobile FM UHF radio service" to "land mobile UHF radiotelephone service." --Aefalcon (talk) 15:31, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Why is there not a listing of all the channel frequencies?

There are two charts, one showing frequencies for channels 15-22, and then a separate one for channels 1-7 which are shared with FRS.

8 through 14 are FRS only, and this is the GMRS article. The FRS-only channels are listed in the Family Radio Service article. I suppose an argument could be made for using the same table in both, with appropriate notations, since practically all "GMRS" radios can hit the FRS-only channels too. Let's see what others say... Part 95 Update

The update has changed the regulation numbering, meaning none of the linked references or other citations to the CFRs work. For instance, there is no 95.179, or any other Part 95 numbers below 95.299 or in the 600s. The proper reference for GMRS license eligibility appears to be 95.1705, which includes "family" (95.1705(c)), "grandfathering" (95.1705(g)) and "cooperative use" by other than family members, with written agreements (95.1705(f)).
