What Does "Confirmed Communicant in Good Standing" Mean?
editAccording to the article, the four lay deputies in the House of Deputies, the four lay deputies must be "confirmed communicants in good standing." What in the world does that mean? In the Episcopal church, any "baptized Christian" can receive communion, and the website at Trinity Cathedral in Phoenix, Arizona, states that a person may be a member of Trinity Cathedral without being an Episcopalian. All Saints' Church in Phoenix, for a time, had a rabbi in residence. John Paul Parks (talk) 16:31, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- But not every baptized Christian undergoes confirmation (the confirmed part); even Christians who were confirmed in other churches are formally received into the Episcopal Church. I assume the phrase simply means anyone who is an active member of any Episcopal parish who has received baptism and confirmation in the Episcopal Church or have been formally received into the Episcopal Church after having their baptism and confirmation from another church recognized.
