Definitions of I, J, and K edit

This may seem like a dumb question, but I don’t see any definition of the symbols  ,  , and  . What do they represent?

Looks like they represent the components along three perpendicular axes of a space vector. In other words, where he has for example, a vector:

  = (formula 1)   + (formula 2)  + (formula 3)  

he means

X component of R = (formula 1)

Y component of R = (formula 2)
