Wondering what to do with the name of this article in 2014. There already is a Volvo Polestar Racing, the long-running factory supported race team run in it's home market racing in Swedish TCC, World TCC and the TTA League. Leave it as GRM? --Falcadore (talk) 06:08, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

• Leave as GRM. Volvo Polestar Racing is closer to a brand name, same reason Triple Eight Race Engineering (Australia) has not been renamed Red Bull Racing Australia. As I understand Garry Rogers retains 100% ownership, if Volvo or Polestar bought the team then perhaps a case for change. If the Volvo deal came to an end in the future the team would presumably resume the GRM identity. V7867 (talk) 07:41, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

This cite you have quoted is from June 2013 [1] and is in reference to the 2014 season. This has since been superseded by this cite from October 2014 [2] stating the team will be known as Wilson Security Racing GRM from January 2015. So much like Prodrive Racing Australia was Ford Performance Racing in 2014, it has since changed.

As we use original names, it is thus correct to revert to referring to the team as GRM, the VPR name was just a trading name much like Wilson Security Racing GRM, Red Bull Racing Australia, Pepsi Max Crew PRA etc. V7867 (talk) 22:56, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

There are four sentences in your supplied reference which give the team name as Volvo Polestar Racing. Why are you ignoring them?

As with V7867 I feel it should be refferred to as Garry Rogers Motorsport as the sponsored identity is listed Wilson Security Racing GRM and not Wilson Security Racing VPR. --Falcadore (talk) 23:13, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

The cite refers to the team as VPR as that was its name when it was written in October 2014. The name change did not take effect until January 2015 per the section previously quoted. If GRM were running Volvos and Volvo/Polestar were purely a sponsor, I would agree with you. However, the 2013 source clearly states that Volvo and Polestar are directly involved in the racing; GRM is one part of VPR, which is the team running in the championship. Refer to these lines about halfway down the article (which refer to the team in general, not just for 2014):

1. "Volvo Polestar Racing is a partnership between Volvo Car Australia, Polestar and Garry Rogers Motorsport, and it will be the official Volvo factory racing team."
2. "The Swedish team will produce the V8 engine and assist Garry Rogers Motorsport in the development of the V8 Supercars campaign. "
3. "Volvo Car Australia and Polestar are investing significant capital and resources into Garry Rogers Motorsport, who will produce and race two V8 Supercars based on the production S60 road car."

Also, if the team is listed as GRM on the 2015 page, it should also be listed as GRM on the 2014 page. ^Kytabu_Talk 10:03, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

AFAIK, there has been no change in the ownership structure, i.e. Garry Rogers retains 100% ownership of the team. Volvo and Polestar's contribution has been through the use of its resources in Sweden to develop the car. So while maybe not a sponsor in the cash sense, they are contributing in other ways.

Presumably as part of the 2014 deal, Volvo were given naming rights for the season. But for 2015, the deal has changed and Wilson Security have taken over that role.

Agree it should also be listed in 2014 as GRM, see no particular reason why the precedent of sticking with generic team names was overridden just because the title sponsor was a manufacturer. V7867 (talk) 10:49, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, and HRT used to have a partnership with Tony D'Alberto Racing but it was never called Tony D'Alberto Racing HRT. Dick Johnson Racing years back used to have a partnership with Triple 8, but it didn't affect the team name. A partnership is just that, a partnership. It's not like Roger Penske bought a majority stakehold or anything.

There have been MANY partnerships, but almost none of them have changed the name of the team. --Falcadore (talk) 11:09, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
