Ftizgerald, not FitzGerald

How this frankly sloppy spelling error has been let pass in an article of such length is appaling. Fitzgerald is not ever given a capital G and this should be altered in the title and in the body of the text. I will edit the body given more free time, until then has anyone the ability to change the title?

You should start by providing a source for this claim.

I find that the capital G is used in:

1. the ten entries I checked on the Oireachtas website (debates her)
2. In Walker's Parliamentary Election Results in Ireland 1918-92
3. In the Irish Times, where he writes a regular column -- see this search.

It's always FitzGerald with a capital G, as BrownHairedGirl says. How the man signs his own name should be definitive. I found an image from the European NAvigator site [1]. Search for Garret FitzGerald, and select "Joint Declaration between Portugal and the EEC" from the search results. The first page contains his signature. If enlarge the image, you can clearly see a capital G in his surname. Also, people who cannot be CIVIL should not be allowed to use wikipedia. Btw, User:Ste01, appalling is spelt with 2 l's not one as you spelt it in your post above, and you misspelt the alternative version of the surname in the section heading. Extradition Act of 1987

"Mo ainm" edited out this very important aspect which should be included. The 1965 Extradition Act had allowed suspects to avoid extradition if they claimed an alleged crime was a "political" offence, and the 1987 Act ended that. Fitzgerald had another reason not connected with the North as the 1977 European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism had to be legislated for. The 1987 Act had been drafted and redrafted for some years before 1987, and was very important at the time. Not my interpretation but GF himself said 'Under the 1965 Act it is possible for persons whose extradition is sought by a foreign country to claim that they should not be extradited because the offence for which they are sought was a political offence or an offence associated with a political offence. It is that aspect of the 1965 legislation with which we are now concerned.' What's the big deal anyway? You could have checked it using Google.86.42.212.103 (talk) 20:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Dublin South-East

Spleodrach, the link "Dublin South-East" should be linked to the redirect "Dublin South-East" per WP:NOTBROKEN. The constituency was never known by the name of Dublin Bay South during FitzGerald's lifetime, so directly linking to that title in this article is an unnecessary anachronism. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 02:09, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

As an uninvolved editor who has the page in their watchlist and has been watching ye reverting each other's edits, I'll weigh in here. I think @Neveselbert is correct. If one were to write a detailed history of the Dublin South-East constituency at some point, in that article space, it would make sense to having the existing link pointed there. Given that it is already a functional redirect, I don't really understand @Spleodrach's reasoning for the change.

I would also like to point out that spending days on end reverting 3-bit invisible edits (and now talking about it, me included) is the height of Wikipedian tedium. Xx78900 (talk) 13:20, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
