Why the name edit

I am learning Garhwali. Recently, some native speakers of the language objected when I used the term: गढ़वळि भाख. They said: गढ़वळी & गढ़वाळी are acceptable spellings and that it is only भाषा and not भाख. Can you kindly tell me how true is this? I know Garhwali has many dialects. Which dialects use these spellings? If this is right, I request you to make the changes accordingly. Nik9hil (talk) 14:24, 4 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Takri edit

The resource which says Takri was used for Garhwali has wrong things written in it. It maps Gaddi to Bharmaur,'Uttarakhabd'. Bharmaur is in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh not Uttarakhand. Another mistake it makes is mapping Gahri to 'Garhwal, Uttarakhand'. Gahri is a language spoken in Lahaul valley of Himachal Pradesh. It has nothing to do with Uttarakhand. Coming to mapping of Jaunsari to Dehra Dun, that is right, but again it is for Jaunsari & not for Garhwali. Given this, there's no proof for Takri usage for Garhwali (except Jaunpuri). Therefore I am removing the image as well as the resource. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nik9hil (talkcontribs) 16:05, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nik9hil, as per the points put forward by you I have made appropriate ammendments. People should be informed about each and every aspect of the language and its dialects. That is what a wiki page is about. Please let me know what are your opinions on this. Binsarhills (talk) 04:01, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
There is no proof of Takri script for Garhwali language. So it would be wrong to spread this misinformation. I have clarified in previous comment on what is wrong with the paper you had cited. I am again removing those images. Jaunpuri used it & I have added Takri to that page. Nik9hil (talk) 07:57, 26 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also, please read the shodhganga pdf on the web which I hav not been able to attach here. It clearly describes the involvement of Garhwali Purohits in writing some of the Himachali manuscripts. Binsarhills (talk) 03:07, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

I believe that this much ammount of sourcing is more than enough to strengthen the points out forward. Binsarhills (talk) 03:10, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

You may be right that not all of Garhwal used the Takri script but, an appreciable did so we are not misguiding anyone infact, modern descendents are being made aware of their almost forgotten history. Binsarhills (talk) 03:12, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • correction: "...an appreciable fraction did..." Binsarhills (talk) 03:15, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also, in a previous reply you mentioned that the author of the source had wrongly mentioned Garhwal as the region where Garhi is spoken. However,as the mistake made here is not of unidirectional nature, isn't it quite possible that the author intended to put Garhwali and accidentally put Garhi instead? Binsarhills (talk) 03:30, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Infact, the theory put forward makes much more sense here's why: 1)Garhi speaking regions lie in the Laahul and Spiti region, which is much more influenced by sino-tibeten culture and linguistics(as the Wikipedia page mentions)hence, it is quite unlikely that Takri was used here. This is strengthened by the fact that a)The specimens of Takri found in this region were from gifts sent in praise of Raja Jagat Singh from the ruler of Kangra and were made by Gambhir Rai,as evident from the pdf attached below the wiki page of Garhi b)Revival of Tibetan script is in full swing in this region Binsarhills (talk) 03:42, 10 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Takri is not verified to be used for the Garhwali language. i. edit

Removed reference for the Hindustan Times article mentioning Takri being used for Garhwali. They have failed to provide any sample for Takri being used for the Garhwali language. Same goes for Anshuman Pandey's Unicode PDF. (https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2009/09111-takri.pdf) The HT article is also riddled with factual errors like claiming that Nepali also used Takri. Use of Devanagari is attested for Garhwali in the Linguistic Survey of India by G. A. Grierson (Volume 9.4). Other editors please take note, Takri is being added again and again to the page without citing samples. Another error is claiming 'Takri was used for some dialects for Garhwali' in the wiki edits, where not a single source is mentioned which has anything saying this. Pronouns all over the place edit

Several of the pronouns listed in the pronoun section, despite including a few alternatives, are very different from those in the verb form tables - as well as between present and future (and past, unless an ergative is used there?). If these are all taken from different dialects or standards, can this be clarified? Or are Garhwali pronouns marked for tense, which occurs in e.g. Wolof but is very unusual in IE languages?
