The article Social influence of Gangnam Style has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Closed as do not merge. The article has been significantly expanded since when the merge was proposed. Other pages of its type exist as pointed out by Dream Focus and I think we can use the WP:OTHERSTUFF argument as a rationale to not merge it. Also, it is a notable topic and both this and the main article are too big to consider a merge. FWIW, I am not a big fan of this type of article. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 01:19, 2 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

This article asserts that the popularity of Gangnam Style is largely attributed to celebrities, but this is nothing new, for many, many other social phenomenons and memes have their various reputations and reactions from the world. Even so, such information about celebrities' reactions and effects on the popularity of the song could always be mentioned on the original article. 1) Purpose of article is to redirect celebrity comments away from main article so that it will not fil up the whole page
  2) T-Pain "sent [the video] to the stratosphere" when he tweeted about it on July 29." (Wall Street Journal)
  3) Comment by Britney Spears allowed Psy to appear on Ellen Degeners show and dance with her

Such information (if relevant at all) should go on the original article, if it hasn't already. There is no need for an entirely separate article if such information can be added to a relevant section on the original article. The topic of a separate article must be important enough to be entitled to its own article.

I'll wait a few days to see if there is expansion before removing the tag; however, I think this is a viable article. If we could include celebrity references as well as reports on how each one influenced its popularity this could be useful. At the same time, I expected (from the title) an entirely different article. I thought this would be an article to contain information about the flash mobs, effect this has on k-pop in America (and Korea) etc. Ryan Vesey 21:44, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, if more information can be provided about the social influence or impact, i.e. information other than simply a chart of retweets and celebrity mentions, that would be great; I wouldn't be opposed to the article's upholding if that can be done. But if an article like this must be made, separate from the original, I really think it has to have much more than just a chart of retweets and quotes. What could be included is the positive or negative reception and differing opinions of the phenomenon. I.e. Do some celebrities laugh it off? Is there some reaction from maybe Korean communities across the world, etc. GabeIglesia (talk) 21:56, 21 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
If this article is staying, could someone move all the flash mob and sports stuff on the main page over to here? I'm seeing more and more sports stuff being added to the main article. AngusWOOF (talk) 06:53, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose merge. Enough valid information to fill its own article, it thus a valid content fork. Dream Focus 20:54, 25 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support merge There's enough information alright, but not encyclopedic information. An article detailing every instance of a notable person referencing (or dancing, singing, etc.) "Gangnam Style" is neither feasible, desirable, nor appropriate. Gangnam Style#Popular culture should mention the most high-profile references as a way of illustrating the song's influence, but that's all. The information already there is really sufficient, so what I'd really support is a redirect. Compare to the many "International reactions to Foo" articles, most of which have been converted to section redirects. --BDD (talk) 21:43, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Category:Topics in popular culture shows many such articles like this exist, and always have existed in Wikipedia. Google list hordes more that aren't put in that category yet. [1] It is useful to see just how much influence something had on other notable media around the world. Dream Focus 23:11, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Something wrong with ref... edit

I was trying to add new stuff to the article about "Gangnam Style"'s other appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and added clear and separate references, but it has the same citation. I do not have time, so can somebody fix it? Image2012 (talk) 12:25, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fixed I also grouped all the Leno jokes in one paragraph. Thanks for adding them! AngusWOOF (talk) 17:44, 26 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
