As a female name

I'm tweaking the article having recently heard of Gabriel Weston. I would imagine there to be other female Gabriels out there, possibly as a result of the popular stereotype of angels as female. — Smjg (talk) 14:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Meaning of Gabriel

I don't know who spread the error in the meaning that even Oxford reproduces it.

Some say Gabriel means man of God because they derive it from geber, others say it derives from gabar meaning strength of God. A few recognize the "i" in the middle and say God is my man or even God is my strong man.

First, the root is gabar meaning "strength" because:

1. it's Gabriel and not Gebriel.
2. To say "man of God" you would use "ish" in Hebrew (ish haEl / ishel).

Second, the possessive suffix "i" at the end of a word meaning "my".

Gabryel and its varients

Gabriel can be written as "Gabryel",it is like its I counterpart but with a y so please be aware it exists you can expend on it as I cant write good articles in english so yeah thanks for the comprehension ParrotGab (talk) 15:58, 30 April 2023 (UTC)
