Musical drama? edit

So, I've only watched about 4 episodes of Empire, but is it really a musical drama, as described in the listing? It's a drama ABOUT music, but I'm not sure that's the same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.142.70.108 (talk) 19:07, 6 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Obesity issue edit

Her obvious and dangerous weight problem should be in the article. She has an obvious food addiction. Discuss. 173.171.70.190 (talk) 07:05, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

If the she addresses or acknowledges it, then it should be mentioned, but I don't think it's relevant to her article, however, Howard Stern's comment on it MIGHT be notable in the controversy it has caused. --Hourick (talk) 19:30, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think it's really not appropriate to describe her first as "morbidly obese" before describing her as an actress. She has a page because of the acting, not the obesity. I removed such a reference, and I think the jury's still out on where (if anywhere) is the best place to reinsert that phrase. -Morris —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.11.113.77 (talk) 01:48, 25 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Obesity can be caused by certain illnesses. Although in most cases obesity is the result of some kind of eating disorder, it does not make sense - in my opinion - for an encyclopedia to take a "good guess" and attribute her obesity to an "obvious food addiction". --Tdeu (talk) 15:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi pls. She is not to much obes. She weigh 400 pounds at most, thx. We shud leaf these fact out of the artacle, beos of the sensitvity issue. ok.--69.114.214.58 (talk) 03:52, 2 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think her morbid obesity certainly needs to be addressed, regardless of what the cause might be. Her size makes her different than most other actresses, no doubt limits the roles she's considered for, and makes her more interesting. It can be done without being cruel or mocking- and it's not like she doesn't already know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.192.103.6 (talk) 14:45, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Her size makes her different"---people, and actors, come in different sizes. The article on the actor Carel Struycken starts of "He is an exceptionally tall man at 2.13 metres (7 feet) and thus is often called upon to play character or comedic roles in which height plays a major part". No moral condemnation, no demand for him to get help with it, and it makes sense to mention it because it does define him so much as an actor. In the case of Gabourey Sidibe, I'm not sure it really does determine her casting all that much; the only thing I've seen her in is "The Big C", and as far as I could tell, that character didn't have to be fat; lots of people could have played that part. There are a lot of roles that could be written as a man, woman, Asian, white person, black person, Hispanic, and it really doesn't matter. Watching the Big C, I couldn't help noticing her size, and my reactions to it, but the other characters never seemed to. Maybe just showing a picture of her is enough. Anyway, if her body habitus needs to be mentioned at all, serious thought should go into how and where to mention it. It definitely is not a moral issue she needs to be shamed for! If her weight is a problem for her, it's her problem, not really anyone else's business.66.214.240.95 (talk) 20:47, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Latest media reports indicate that she lost 50 pounds. She definitely looks slimmer in her recent selfies posted to Instagram. 63.92.241.249 (talk) 23:17, 12 September 2016 (UTC) DarwinReply

I want to fix the red links because it's distracting and take out the comment of Jimmy Kimmel saying "Are you insane?" because he never said that in the whole interview and I feel like the person who wrote that is sabotaging Gabourey Sidibe. Theatheistgerm (talk) 04:11, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please provide a reliable source for the interview change. I am only removing one redlink, because it is duplicated, but leaving the other because someone may see it and decide to write an article about it.  fetchcomms 04:17, 26 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
There isn't a reliable source that he did say it, why is it required to prove a negative to get it removed? Alucinor (talk) 21:17, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think Fetchomms misunderstood something - anything that is unsourced like this should be removed immediately according to Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons, a reliable source is not required to remove something that is unsourced. CIGraphix (talk) 15:14, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can someone please either remove the "The Big C" link or change it to a redlink - It's referencing a TV Show but is currently pointing to the concrete installation at UC Berkeley, which is incredibly unrelated. My account is too new to accomplish this. Thanks. Etcee (talk) 05:40, 2 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit-warring attempting to insert a new picture of uncertain origin edit

There has been an edit-war regarding the insertion of a new picture of Sidibe from 1983 which is at best hopelessly outdated. Tbhotch and I reverted this insertion on the grounds that it is outdated at best and probably a copyvio at worst. Now we have IPs, most probably socks, joining the action as well. The IP asserts that the old picture "shows Sidibi's beauty more", a clearly subjective and irrelevant assertion, given that we should strive to show to our readers the most recent picture of her not to mention that we should also strive for clear copyright status, which the new picture clearly lacks. Because of these concerns and also because this is a WP:BLP I will ask for article protection if this continues. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 12:44, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

How could the image have been taken in 1983, when she wasn't even a year old? This image is Gabourey and it's a beautiful picture that I took. Why can't it stay? WisdomToothless (talk) 13:46, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about 1983, I misread the caption of the picture. This makes it even worse. This picture looks nothing like Sidibe. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 13:57, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

That is her. I took the picture. WisdomToothless (talk) 14:16, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Image Vandalism edit

My sensors (WP:HUGGLE) have alerted me to image vandalism on this article. The latest IP has been blocked as a result. If there are further image-related vandalism attempts please post them at WP:AIV along with a link to this article and they will be taken care of. N419BH 14:31, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fantastic news. Great sensors. Many thanks. Take care. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 14:34, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

reference to mother's reality tv career edit

under what possible circumstance should the fact of the mother's appearance on "America's Got Talent" be included under Gabourey's Career section? Under no circumstances, I would think. This should be removed from her page as it detracts from actually informative information about the actress. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.124.134.193 (talk) 23:02, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Since her mother is apparently notable enough to have her own article, it seems not unreasonable to include her most significant claim to notability as an aside.--Shantavira|feed me 10:39, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name pronunciation edit

To any interested editor: I the Wikipedia standard for the written phonetic pronunciation of names is to use Wikipedia:Pronunciation_respelling_key, so for information sake and to provide a sourced reference, in People (magazine), April 11, 2011, page 32, Time, Inc., "Say What??: Scoop's handy pronunciation guide to today's tricky celebrity names" Gabourey Sidibe's name is written out as "GAB-or-ay SIH-dih-bay." 5Q5 (talk) 15:57, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
