Advert / COI Issues

There are multiple editors with usernames that are associated with Gabe Polsky or the movies he has made. For now, it seems appropriate that the article is tagged with a WP:UPE, Conflict of Interest or Advert tag until these edits or the article can be reviewed to make sure the information is not promotional/self-serving, and that all of the info is adequately cited to independent sources.

Some issues that seem easily noticeable: There are too many WP:PUFFERY words. The article is also primarily made up of positive reviews of his movies and awards, rather than a general overview of his life and work. This is not a resume or a collection of reviews and awards of his work - it's supposed to be an encyclopedic biography.

For anyone editing who may have a financial connection to Polsky or his work, or who may have an otherwise personal connection to this topic, please read WP:COI before editing further. - Whisperjanes (talk) 21:51, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

I am looking at some of the WP: PUFFERY issues on this page and would like to propose the following changes to the Career section:

Delete- "Polsky has been nominated for three Writer's Guild Awards"

Delete- "Ben Reiter of Sports Illustrated said that the film is "an unprecedented understanding of the true source of athletic genius."[9] Nick Paumgarten of The New Yorker called In Search of Greatness "A soulful and idiosyncratic investigation of magic made manifest on the field, the court, the ice, and the canvas.""

Change- "The film was nominated for awards, including a WGA award" to "The film was nominated for a WGA Award."

Delete- "The film was described by IndieWire as “a perfectly formed Indie with a heart of gold."[27] Released in November 2013, The Motel Life has been called “outstanding and enthralling” by The Washington Post[28] and “admirable and memorable” by The Wall Street Journal.[29]"

@Jhowe1980: I think that would be a good start to addressing this issue, so I'll go ahead and make those changes. Also, you seem to be a new user, so just a friendly reminder - if you have any connection to Polsky, it would be helpful to read WP:COI and it would be best to disclose if you do have a connection to him in any form. Hello, Gabe Polsky is a client of my company. He would like to request changes to his page.

1) Please make these two sentences, about Gabe’s new movie Butcher’s Crossing which is currently in post-production, the first lines in the first paragraph of the Career section: “In 2021, it was announced that Polsky is directing his adaptation of the John Williams novel, Butcher’s Crossing, starring Nicolas Cage. The story is about a young Harvard University dropout who seeks his destiny out West by tying his fate to a team of buffalo hunters.”

2) In the first sentence of the second paragraph in Career, add “the feature documentary” before In Search of Greatness. All of his other films have a description of what they are. “In 2018 Polsky wrote, directed and produced the feature documentary In Search of Greatness.”

3) After “In 2018 Polsky wrote, directed and produced the feature documentary In Search of Greatness” please add: “The film is about the greatest athletes of all time and how qualities like creativity and artistry allowed them to rise above the rest.”

4) After the sentence “The film features interviews with sports icons Wayne Gretzky, Pelé, and Jerry Rice”, add this quote from SI about the film: Sports Illustrated noted that the documentary "seeks to uncover the secrets of athletic genius, with implications extending far beyond sports.”

5) At the end of the sentence about the WGA nomination in that paragraph, add “and was nominated for best documentary at the Chicago and Moscow International Film Festivals.”

6) In the sixth paragraph under Career, add “The series was nominated for 10 Emmys including Outstanding Limited Series.” at the end of the paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhowe1980 (talk • contribs) 21:02, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Item 1 done. The chronology of said section is backwards though. The earliest should go at the top and the latest at the bottom. Thinker78 (talk) 03:26, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
