I am not convinced about Fyodor's listing as Belorussian. Yes, he was born in Belarus but that does not make him Belorussian. We know that his Sulima-Stravinsky surname originates from Ukrainian Sulima and most likely Lithuanian polonized Stravinskas. Besides his birth place, there is very little connects him to Belarus. His father Ignatij was an agronomist and it was natural for him to move around Ukraine and Belarus due to his work. It was known that Ignatij worked extensively in Ukraine in Chernihiv, Poltava, Nizhyn, etc. http://uahistory.com/topics/famous_people/4355
Fyodor studied music in Ukraine and Imperial Russia. He started his professional career in Ukraine and continued in Russia. He was fluent in both Ukrainian and Russian (wrote his notes in both languages). He was strong promoter of Ukrainian operas, new by heart poetry by Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, he posed as Ukrainian Cossack for Ilya Repin's famous Ukrainian-related painting, he sang Ukrainian folk songs often in concerts, etc. So when it comes to the origin I inclined to use "Russian singer of Ukrainian (or Ukrainian-Lithuanian) descent".Slavuta33 (talk) 04:12, 1 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
