The description of 6 rowers per oar is misleading. From the description, i could find there isn't even enough physical space to seat 6 rowers at once. Besides; the oar length is the same as oars of other Mediterranean galleys of the period that only had 2, or frequently 3, rower per oar plus one skilled officer.
My impression is that the information we have refers to two teams of oarsmen, where only one team would work at a time. That also somewhat matches the number of Oar Officers at 45.
If any French speaking people is at disposition then the 'Dictionnaire de Marine, 1702' might have a insight on it. However, i could not find any digitalization of the same, nor does my university have any chance of having it at hand. LariLaranja (talk) 15:41, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
