Early FA M83 pistols had a nut holding the mainspring in the frame. This was replaced in 199? by a slot in the frame that retains the mainspring.

In 199? FA introduced a bushing retained firing pin upgrade that makes firing pin replacement a simple task. The factory will upgrade older guns with the press-fit fp for a nominal charge.

Intermediate era (1992-199?) guns are often seen with a replaceable carbide forcing cone insert retained by a set screw on the right side of the frame.

The factory Premier finish is applied using a worn piece of brown ScotchBrite. Minor finish blemishes can be removed from Premier Grade guns by softening a piece of brown ScotchBrite and rubbing gently in the direction of the original finish. Field Grade guns are grit blasted and should not be touched-up with ScotchBright.

Older M83 guns that do not carry a Field Grade or Premier Grade designation are Premier Grade. All silhouette model pistols were Field Grade finished.

All M97 guns are Premier Grade.
