Contesting Priority edit

Frederick van Zyl Slabbert is an important historical figure who was involved in fighting Apartheid in South Africa. Thus, he is not of 'low' importance. --Cazo3788 06:49, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with the above remark; FVS must rank as the most influential opposition politician in SA in the last 30 years if we consider the enormous impact he had on changing government policy. If FVS had not been born, there would have been no Dakar Conference, and CODESA may not have happened, and the SA of today would look a lot different to what is does. So, FVS has played a large role in shaping the history of SA, and his biographical article is important for this reason.Eccohomo (talk) 09:41, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Son's Child edit

I don't consider that the relationship between Slabbert's son and the mother of his child is at all relevant to this article. I'm going to remove it, but if other people can justify its inclusion, I won't object. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.72.109.187 (talk) 23:38, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Other side of history.gif edit

Image:Other side of history.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Punctuation edit

This politician's surname was NOT 'Slabbert', in much the same way that David Lloyd George's surname was NOT 'George'. FVS had a double barreled surname. I have changed all references in this article to reflect this fact.Eccohomo (talk) 09:41, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have now confirmed with a friend of the family that Van Zyl was one of Slabbert's first names. This means that (in Afrikaans usage) it always takes an upper-case V. It is true that he is often referred to as Van Zyl Slabbert, but many of his friends and associates (and some family members) called him Van Zyl (or just Van - English pronunciation) while some stuck to Fred. I changed the cases where Frederik is not used, from Van Zyl Slabbert to Slabbert, so as not to perpetuate the mistaken impression that he had a double surname.Teachalakazi (talk) 05:23, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
