Taking acid edit

"Taking Acid" This phrase occurs time and again in pre-WW2 cycling reports. It is my opinion that such frequent reference cannot be related to drug abuse, even given that it was not illegal at that time. It would have been considered cheating in the amateur world, and heavily frowned upon. In the context in which it appears, I believe it is merely a euphemism for suffering. If any acid is involved at all, it is lactic acid, a natural by-product of muscular activity.
