Republican Challenger?

I've been following the race in District 17 very closely, and I have yet to see a Republican running. Do we have a citation on the Republican Challenger? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.176.72.93 (talk) 19:40, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Empty barrel

CNN. I suspect that being called this pejorative term for politicizing a phone call to a Gold star family will follow her forever. She has apparently taken exception to the label. Probably should be mentioned in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.130.15.30 (talk) 15:01, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

respectful expression of presidential sympathies

Why edit out credible information? "But the White House presented Mr. Kelly as a character witness on Wednesday, noting that he was present for Mr. Trump’s call on Tuesday afternoon to Sergeant Johnson’s wife, Myeshia Johnson, and viewed it as a respectful expression of presidential sympathies." Death Exploiter

General Kelly identified Wilson as exploiting the deaths of FBI agent to blow her own horn at the opening of the FBI building in 2015. Now in 2017 she eavesdropped on a telephone call between the president and a grieving widow to make a political point. More? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:18D:4980:A021:DE1:51D:429D:11EA (talk) 01:31, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

<BLP violating stupidity removed>

Frederica Wilson declared herself a "Rockstar" while exploiting soldier's death and receiving criticism from Kelly. Here is the article, published in the Washington Post. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/10/20/im-a-rock-star-now-frederica-wilson-helped-trump-by-making-a-trump-like-comment/?utm_term=.7e4f99fe180d In her own words with embedded video. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2017/10/20/dem_rep_frederica_wilson_on_slain_soldier_controversy_im_a_rock_star.html

Video released on Friday, October 20 proves that Wilson's account of her 2015 speech at the FBI building dedication was accurate, and Kelly's account was in error on several substantive points. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:51, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Frederica Wilson's district 24 does not include Pembroke Pines - I request it be removed from the Article. 108.171.132.167 (talk) 18:29, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Done Based on https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/FL24_115.png, Pembroke Pines is just outside the 24th district's boundaries. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 23:23, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

NOTNEWS

The brew-ha-ha about a phone call is WP:NOTNEWS. I encourage editors to wait and consider whether the news stories are WP:NOTEWORTHY. – S. Rich (talk) 02:05, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

They are noteworthy. Obviously. WP:NOTNEWS does not apply here. Volunteer Marek  02:20, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
The first line of NOTNEWS is "As Wikipedia is not a paper source, editors are encouraged to include current and up-to-date information within its coverage." This is a biography of a member of Congress, and this interaction with the President and his Chief of Staff is a significant event in her life, and is being discussed by numerous reliable sources worldwide. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:24, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

long time friend of the family??

please indicate the citation that says that Wilson is/was a 'long-time friend' of the La David Johnson family. I have not read that anywhere, except in this wiki article.. Let us eat lettuce (talk) 20:18, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, didn’t notice your post until now. I’ve added an RS ("longtime family friend"). It’s been mentioned in several articles that she has been friends with the family for decades although not in the exact words I used. Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 17:05, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

allegation - trolling???

(User: Space4Time3Continuum2x) Maybe read the articles that are cited... Article clearly states "The president has called the allegation “totally fabricated” and criticized Wilson." No mention of remarks. [1] Let us eat lettuce (talk) 19:45, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

I apologize for suspecting that your reinsertion of "willfully mischaracterizing" might have been trolling; I had overlooked the NYT mentioning Huckabee Sanders’ statement. I don’t think her spin on the events belongs in the article, particularly since the same NYT paragraph also says that the WH "was no longer disputing Wilson’s account." "Allegation" is a loaded word (WP:NPOV), implying that Wikipedia has an opinion, so I used neutral wording instead. Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 17:33, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

WH Chief of Staff

Normally I would agree with you, but in this case the longer version is necessary. Neither Kelly nor the referenced RS used the verb "brag", making it editor’s opinion, and the direct Kelly quote is the only mention of the funding (maybe because Wilson didn’t talk about the procurement of funding at all). Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 16:57, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

"Brag" is synonymous with Kelly's accusations. He claimed that Wilson spoke only of her only ability to bring the building to her district. That sounds like bragging. I am open to other words though. I think the quote gives Kelly's words too much weight especially since the quote has been proven false. We should be trying to paraphrase. Knope7 (talk) 17:27, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
"He ... attacked Wilson for bragging about securing the funding" - to me it sounds as though we're saying that she was bragging and Kelly was merely attacking her for it. I can't think of a way of paraphrasing that much spin (her "history of politicizing" and then use the flat out lie about the Miami speech as an example) - maybe we should ask for other editors' suggestions/comments? I watched the video twice - pretty good speech (you can hear that the audience enjoyed it), no mention of funding and 95% praise of other people, but that's OR + unusable! CNN has an account of it, though:

While Wilson took credit in her speech at the dedication ceremony for shepherding legislation naming the FBI building after two FBI agents who were killed in a 1986 gunfight, she did not claim credit for helping to fund the building, according to the video.

Wilson also spent a considerable portion of her remarks praising the valor of law enforcement, retelling the story of the two slain FBI agents and calling on those who work in the field to stand and be recognized.

The White House did not directly respond to the video that contradicts the chief of staff's claims, and instead repeated Kelly's criticism of Wilson as "an empty barrel."

Any relation to Leslie? Space4Time3Continuum2x (talk) 18:25, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
I don not understand what you are trying to say. We should be attempting to paraphrase. Please make a suggestion as to wording if you do not like the previous version. Knope7 (talk) 18:40, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
